When Will They Play Nice Together We've had Tucker (17mos.) for a little over a year and thought it would be great to get him a little sister (I've always wanted a little girl Yorkie) so we got 4 month old Molly for him (and Me). I had visions of them laying side by side on their little beds gnawing on their chew toys, etc.... But, all they do is wrestle and growl and nip and fight over each others toys, and beds, etc. This is not what I had in mind. Tucker is big at around 5.5 lbs and Molly is tiny at under 2.5 lbs and I worry about him hurting her. I was careful to introduce them slowly and from behind baby gates, ex-pen and stuff with short play times together, but it has been almost a month now. Will they have to live in separate rooms forever? Aack! What do I do? Thanks a bunch! |
Give them time to adjust . |
I don't think they will have to live apart forever. Maybe that is there way of playing Give them time, I am sure they will do great together. |
I believe that is their way of playing. I recently got a new puppy too (earlier this month to be exact) and I was worried on how Max would behave with his new sister and let me tell you he has done great. She's a little Doxie and last time we went to the vet weight 3.5lbs and Max's weight is 12.6lbs but they play well. It's kinda rough for me at times but I know its the way they are going to be playing all the time. Dixie will grab onto Max's hair and he will drag her across the room and its really funny. :p And then Max will nibble on her ears and stuff like that. They don't really fight over toys or anything of that kind but they have their rough moments. So maybe its that they need to get used to each other. |

I think just letting them be pups and letting the dominate one be dominate will work. That is what I did and we have three.....it can be a handful tho... |

I got the book THE LOVED DOG for Christmas. We also got a 10 week old puppy. Sadie is now almost 16 weeks and chewy is a year and half. Chewy is 5.2 pounds Sadie is 2.6. I NEVER SEPERATE THEM EVER, and they get along fine. They sleep together, and wrestle together and eat together. This book says let them wrestle. They are figureing out the pecking order. It also says not to correct the older dog if they nip at the younger... It is teaching the pup manners. I have found this to be true although if I see my older dog correct for no good reason I let him know i'm not happy! To be honest, Sadie is harder on Chewy then Chewy ever thought of being to her. If it gets to rough some one lets out a yelp and every one backs off! You may want to let them work it out and see how it goes. It is hard to watch them play like this but you can tell when they are playing. ;) |
