Hair Question??? I look at everyone's pictures and I really love the longer hair especially around the face...the problem is, that Miley is so little only 2 lbs so I'm not sure if I let her hair grow long she will look funny. Also, how do you get the hair around the face to lay down? She has her hair in her eyes so I always go to the groomers and they cut it short...do I just specify to them to cut the hair out of her eyes or what? I know this is a silly question but she is my first Yorkie and I'm just not sure...if you can see her in the avatar, that is how short they always cut her hair. |
tell them to leave the top alone u want to grow it out, u have to go in there and tell them what u want and they will kno for the next time...my groomer knows how i like the hair to be..hope this helps |
Izzy just turned one 12/29 and she is only 2.8 and I've never had her cut down....she has pretty long hair. You can tell by her pics in her avatar. Her coat is silky so I don't worry about the matting so that's why I let it grow. I wish I knew how to wrap with oil then her coat would be 10x better..lol.:D With the groomer you have to be very specific on what they are allowed to trim...my groomer also shows and breeds Yorkies so he knows what to do. He only trims the ear area and butt area. |
4 Attachment(s) I know what you mean. My guy is around the same weight as yours. Too much hair just seems to overwhelm his face and cover up his cute eyes. When I feel it's at the perfect length, I take a picture and then show that one to my groomer so she can see the lenght that I like. Below are some pictures of "the perfect length". When he had longer hair he just looked like a big puff ball!!:) |

Please don't ask them to cut the hair out near her eyes. If you do, as it grows it wil irritate her eyes. Let it grow and pull it up in a top knot. As it grows, you will be able to control it more to help it lay down. |

I'm going to keep this link so I have those pics for reference. Did you get him in Europe? I know they tend not to dock tails there. |
I alway bring a picture of how I want Piper's hair to look. |
1 Attachment(s) I don't think the long coat is overwhelming on a small Yorkie. I am going to grow Matilda's coat. You just have to get past the puppy coat stage. That is a matted pain in the butt. However, Kalina is now almost 10 months and her coat is so silky and smoothe and doesn't matt like it used to - just like Izzie's Mom said. I would never cut the hair around the eyes. My Vet cut the hair around Matilda's eyes without my permission and I almost died. I am still very upset about it (just ask Chrissy 0277, my groomer!!). It's starting to grow in now where he cut it and it's all these little hairs just sticking out in all different directions. That would be fine if I wanted to keep her in a short puppy coat her whole life, but I don't want that. I love the long flowing locks of the Yorkshire Terrier. But that's just me. I think the puppy cut is adorable too. You have to decide which is best for you and then stick with it. It takes a great deal of perseverence in the beginning but is well worth it in the end. |

I can't imagine his tail docked...it's one of the things I think is soooo cute! Especially when it wags a mile a minute. Thanks everyone for the comments. We just recently lost our dog of 10 years and Beau has really helped my 4 boys with the loss. He is a little blessing! :) Tonya |
