Liver problems? From reading differnet postings on here about liver problems, I am starting to worry and hope my pup never has any problems like that. What happens if a yorkie has a liver problem, what do you look for and why is it common for yorkies to have it? |
|
As for why do Yorkies get it so much, I don't know. It is something to do with genetics coupled with bad breeding practices. Some symptoms are: Seizures Head Pressing (pressing head against a solid object) Circling Shaking Vomiting and Diarrhea Itching Excessive appetite and inappetance Lethargy and Depression Pica (bizarre cravings for unnatural foods...rocks, sticks...per Dr. Tobias 1993) Urinary Problems or frequent UTIs Anesthesia and medicine sensitivity This is by no means an exhaustive list and most of these symptoms are symptoms of other diseases also. You can get a bile acid test if you are concerned. |
thanks for the info Quote:

I believe all yorkies should be bile acid tested: 1) It's relatively inexpensive 2) Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have liver shunt than all other breeds combined. |
