Introducing your baby to the world ? I have recently read several posts that i am confused by such as one said you shouldnt take your baby outside on grass and around other animals till they have had all thier shots..but also i have heard breeders on here saying they took their puppies out for the first time when they were like 6 weeks. So my question is when can you take your puppy around other dogs and outside and all that good stuff. Now i know how a couple of posts have gone lately and dont want to stir up any trouble i know everyone has their own opinion but I AM SO CONFUSED we get luna in 3 weeks and after losing one puppy i am extrememly paranoid i just want to make sure i am doing everything right. |
i think in your own yard is fine i wouldnt let them walk the neightborhood cause thats where they can catch anything this is my own opinion i let my guys in the yard when i got them but i carried them when we went places even after they got there shots i think there still to little to be out there theres so many things they can get |
age I take mine out at 8 weeks if I want..but not around other dogs. I wait untila fter the 12 weeks shot..and if they are not dogs belonging to friends I wait longer...no set rules, just whatever gives you peace of mind. Ask your vet. |
Maggie was allowed in OUR yard, but nowhere else. We carried her in places like pet stores. We didn't even allow her to ride in the shopping baskets. We have two bigger dogs, and we allowed her to play with them from the beginning, which was 8 weeks old. We know our yard and the health of our animals--and that is what's important. |
Angie, our Toto was 16 weeks and weighed 1 1/2 lb. when we brought her home. We followed our Vet's orders to the letter and she has been healthy and just perfect! Dr. Lucy instructed us to keep her out of crowds and not to let her on the ground until she had all her shots. We would naturally take her out, but not in large crowds and we wouldn't allow anyone to hold/touch her. They were very understanding! It's possible that even if we had not followed her instructions, that Toto would have been fine, but why risk it? I think you should follow the advise of your vet. Because Toto is so small, we are still very cautious. Good luck, can't wait to see your little one!! ;) |
I pee pee pad trained Olivia and didn't let her outside except to get in and out of the car- and I always carried her. We live a mile or two from the city zoo and the animals there carry all sorts of different diseases. My cousin and her husband live downstairs and their dog caught a disease in their yard when he was a puppy. They nearly lost him. The vet thought that a bird picked up the disease from one of the zoo animals, and then Abe smelled the bird's pee or poo and caught whatever it was carrying. I realize not everyone lives near a zoo, but take into consideration what is around your house. I would be more careful if your yard is not fenced. I tend to be way overly-cautious most of the time, and insisted that Olivia not touch anything until she was fully vaccinated- just incase. I tend to be unlucky in situations and thought if something could happen, it would happen to me! |
With our girls, we often took them places when they were younger, but would just hold them and not let people touch them in order to keep them healthy...they were allowed to play outside in our fenced yard only until they had their last shots and now they go everywhere with us!!! |
weve taken Pudgy out in the grass and for walks but not around other dogs until all his shots are done. you dont want to risk him getting something since they dont have real strong ammune systems when they are little. Pudgy just turned 10wks and he loves to play in the grass.. i think your cool as long as ya keep him away from other dogs. |
we got bentley when he was 8 weeks..and we took him out in the yard ..and he was in the house with my dogs.. and he was at my aunts house with her dogs... we just tried to keep him away from places he might catch something.. |
I let my dogs go out in our yard only at 8 weeks old. I waited untill they had all their shots to take them anywhere else. |
Lycansmom, I will say use your judgement. As a rule my vet told not to take Gucci out and less around any dogs until she had all her shots. The times I took Gucci out she was on her carrier and I didnt allowed anyone to carry her. I started to walk her outside when she was 7 to 8 months. I had to wait longer cause Gucci had ringworm since I got her. ( I found out a week after she got home) |
