Dew Claws Does anyone have a yorkie with dew claws? You know bandit has them and I am meaning to remove them as they are splitting up and that can cause infection. But coming to think of it, Scooby didnt have any, I wonder if they were removed by the breeder? Do you all remove them? Are you supposed to cut off the hair in a dogs inside ears also? Scooby used to let me do it but Bandit twitches which can be dangerous. Also the nail clipping he was so good at that now he is getting antsy, scooby could have cared less:D ...poor soul, I sure miss that little fellar:( |
Usually breeders will remove them. It is safer for the dog because they can get hung up on things. Ellie still has hers though. It would cost more money to surgically remove them now. |
Both mine have theirs, but Im THINKING about having them removed. I haven't done it yet bc its invasive and painful for the dog, however one of my boys keeps getting caught on knitted blankets and other things and Im afraid he is going to hurt himself someday. My groomer cuts the hair on the inside of their ears and does their claws. They hate it... I wouldn't dare try to cut their claws myself! :) |
removing dewclaws is like removing you own nails from your fingers. |
I have 3 Yorkies. May male and female were bought from breeders and had their dew claws removed when I got them. We recently had a litter of puppies with them and when I took them to the vet to have their tails docked he refused to do the dew claws. He said they were too small to go through it and he saw no need for it anyway. Our baby, Tootsie, is still small and has not yet been to the groomer so I trim the dew claws when I trim the nails. When she get older I will let the groomer do them also. I will not be having Tootsie's taken out later, I would not want to put her through that. |
