I need some help.
 

Ok, I have found some puppies that have a very good pedigree. They are only a little over an hour away from me. The mother of these puppies was a show dog. But they have been weaned from their mommy and they are only 6 weeks old. Now the lady told me she would keep them until they are 12 weeks old but during this time they are not going to be with their mommy. The price is a good price with all the champ bloodlines I think she said over 100. But this is way to early isnt it/ I dont know what to do. Thanks for your help.

Thats over 100 champs, not a little over 100.00 lol Sorry. The price is 1500.00.

puppies are weaned around 4-5 weeks of age

that just means they arent eating strickly from the mother anymore..they are eating puppy food

I would be very hesitant to buy from a "breeder" who is willing to sell at six weeks. Maybe I misunderstood. Will she sell them at six weeks or does she insist on waiting til 12?

I always heard not to get a puppy younger than 12 weeks.

i dont think she means they are selling them at 6 weeks.. but they have been weaned by 6 weeks..it sounds like the breeder will keep them until 12 weeks of age

I think she is willing to let them go now.But says that she will keep it until 12 weeks if thats what I want. I am talking to the lady who owns the sire. The lady the owns the dam works full time and she told the lady that owns the sire that she could come get the puppies and sell them. She said they were close friends and that she does most of the work because she does not work a job.

6 weeks is a little early i personally dont see anything wrong with getting a puppy around 8 weeks..unless it is extremely tiny...and i know that some people will disagree with me on that....any puppy i have ever gotten was 6-8 weeks of age and i havent ever had any problems with them

BUT if you arent comfortable take that as a sign and move on

Being weaned by six weeks is one thing but no reputable breeder that I know of would be willing to sell them that young.

The puppies still have so much to learn from mom and siblings on socialization. You would be doing yourself and the puppy an injustice by taking it so early. You'll have a much better, well rounded dog if you wait. It's well worth the patience. :D

I have no problems waiting what so ever. i just think that this was a really great price for the background. I know there are some red flags but almost everywhere I look there are red flags:( .

I'm not sure why she would not let those puppies be with the mother till they are 12 weeks old. The mother teaches them so very much. A good breeder keeps the pups with the mom. Maybe ask a few more questions.

The Yorkshire Terrier Club requires breeders to keep puppies until at least twelve weeks old. If this breeder is violating that rule, she is not a reputable breeder. She's probably not following the other rules, either, like health testing, breeding to the standard, etc.

Puppies learn very important lessons about socialization between 7-11 weeks. One of these lessons is bite inhibition. People who get their puppy too young usually have a difficult time correcting biting. The Fear Imprint Period also occurs during this time. Any traumatic, painful or frightening experiences will have a more lasting impact on your pup. A stressful car trip or an unpleasant trip to the vet at this time could forever make your dog apprehensive about veterinarians and frightened of cars.

has she shown you a pedigree? I would be interested to know what these bloodlines are? Or the name of the kennel?
i know a few breeders in Texas.

Just because there are champion titles in the puppies bloodline does not necessarily mean a whole lot. I'm going to use an example.

Lets say that I buy a puppy with champion blood lines and decide to breed. I dont necessarily know what I'm doing and may make some mistakes...like taking the puppy away from its mother too soon. Even if the puppy could have been an excellent dog, I would have done it a great disservice by taking the puppies away too soon. But, I could possibly charge people more because of the CH titles in the bloodline, and some people would jump. Does CH bloodlines mean that the puppies will have a better chance at picking up what was lost in the early days, when mommy/baby socialization would have occured? No. Does CH bloodlines mean that a puppy will one day be able to achieve CH? No.

The most important thins you can look for in a puppy are good health and a good introduction to the world. These breeders may have good intentions, but I think that by removing the puppy from its mother at such a young age...I just think that should be a dealbreaker.

Another example, I dont know if you have skin kids or not, but there is so much more to raising a healthy child than breastfeeding. What my daughter learns from me in her early years is a major factor into what kind of person she will be as an adult. I think that this directly relates to puppies.

Finding a great yorkie is a full time job in itself. You will NOT find red flags everywhere....do yourself a favour and keep looking.
