number It all comes down to how much time and money you have to give...2 work well as a rule..and 4 seems just right to me.....although I really enjoyed it when I had 6..and then 10 worked well also...there is a number that is too much, but I am not sure what it is... |
************************************************** ******************************* DISCLAIMER: This is my idea/concept/opinion. It is NOT a put down, sarcasm, etc. directed towards/to ANYONE. That said, I have noticed a great deal of YT member restraint due to the likelihood of receiving sarcasm for stating an unpopular idea/concept/opinion. More is the reason for posting this idea/concept/opinion. Sort of a devil's advocate kind of thing. So........... ************************************************** ******************************* Another facet of the situation to consider - It is my opinion, and generally speaking, a single Yorkie MAY bond more closely to their human owners. Without question, the capacity of a Yorkie's love shows no limits. However, having another pet to love, play, and nap with, said Yorkie may build a slightly tighter bond with his/her pet mates. This would especially be apparent in a household where the pet mates spend a great deal of time exclusively together for hours at a time due to their human housemates having to go to school or work. |

I have two at the present time. I had my Alyssa for 3 years before adding Emmy. It took Alyssa about 3 months before she would accept her as a sister. She was jealous and a little possessive of me. She did not want to share her mommy and daddy. I think 2 years difference would be the perfect difference in age. I think I waited too long. Finally my girls do get along but they still get in fights just like sisters. They love to cuddle together, play together and they have each other when we are forced to leave them alone. I am thinking of adding a third yorkie soon. I think 3 will be just as easy as 2. |
I loved having more than one! It seems like we can never find any other furbabies that are compatible with my family, so it's no more than just Tilly for us. |
We have two. I like knowing they have each other when we're not home. I would have more if we didn't have to figure in the vet bills. |
I got Maxi and Mysian together 3 years ago in March. We rescued Muri last May (he's between 1 and 2). I would only recommend getting 2 dogs, never just one. They have constant compansionship and it's more yorkie to love. Trinita Twupsmom |
This makes me want another one, but my bank account has to make it through the first one before I can think about #2 |
Our male, Joey was 10 months old when we got our female, Harley this past Dec. She was 10 weeks old. I'd talked to several owners with 2 Yorkies wondering if that was the route to go since Joey is sooo needy and cries when I'm away. They all had good things to say. The one thing they don't say is the adjustment period!!!!!!!! We've had Harley almost 2 months and I'm still not sure it was the right idea! Anyone have any comments as to how long before I'm enjoying the pair?? |
Me and my gf want another Yorkie, but my room mate isn't too fond of Chloe. |
I have 2, I love them both, but they do not play or sleep together, ect. They don't fight either. But my older Yorkie was 11 when we got the pup 2 years ago. They never warmed up to each other and they don't hang out together. My older one just doesn't like other dogs, she's a people person. But the younger one did pick up her barking at the doorbell non stop. And now and then the older one looses control of her bladder and pee's on floor, and before I can clean it up, the younger one has pee'd next to it. It's funny how the barking thing works, The older dog will give one bark when someone walks by or rings the doorbell now, which in turn sets off the younger one. then the older one goes and lays down, while the younger one keeps on going, like the energizer bunny. I do have two children, and they each have a dog in their room to sleep/cuddle with at night, that's a big plus for me. 1.I would make sure your present dog likes the new dog/pup before you get it. 2. get any undesirable habits gone, or it might multiply like in my case. I'm not sure when my older one goes, If I'll get another one. Although I've been checking out those Biewers lately!!!!! |
I certainly think so! :D I thought having one was great (and it was!) but then I added our female almost a year ago now and it has been DOUBLE the fun! :) They get along GREAT and play so well together. Tatum (my female) get on Stedman's (my males) nerves alot, LOL...but I know he couldn't live without her :p When she was at the vet's getting spayed and was gone for several hours, Stedman was roaming the house looking EVERYWHERE for her. When he couldn't find her, he looked sooooo sad and depressed and finally went and laid down in her little pink bed and went to sleep :( The poor little guy missed his baby sissy so bad  They truly are great together, and I will for the rest of my life ALWAYS have two Yorkies. Probably always 1 boy and 1 girl :) It's just THE BEST!!! :D |
I have read how social most Yorkies are a lot. They do well in groups if they are socialized. If you have a Yorkie who loves to play, then the quality of your Yorkie's life will probably go up if they have a playmate and they will be a lot happier!!! That is why I am getting a playmate for Roxy. I have been looking into this for a while, because Roxy grew up with a bunch of Yorkie's she used to play with, and then when I take her to Petco or PetSmart and she sees other dogs... she gets so excited!!!! So, thats why I am going to find her a Yorkie buddy! :D |

All these posts about how great it is to have two makes the waiting for Beau even harder.:p |

Your right though...he was THRILLED when she came back home! He wanted to play, play, play but of course Tatum couldn't because she had just had surgery :( I think Tatum wondered what the heck was wrong with Stedman, LOL...usually she is the one that is after HIM to play, and he is trying to get away from her, lol. They are just so funny! :p You will just LOVE having two - one is great, but two is even BETTER! :D It's double the fun, double the love, double the excitement, and double the kisses! :p |

.... reading this makes me feel a lot better about my choice. WE WILL get Maya a Playbuddy. I would love to get a boy .... so we have both but my Husband thinks we should get a girl to make it easier on Maya. And he said they can share the Bows (all pink and purple) ... :D So what would be better .... boy or girl .... |

Its addictive isnt it? You get one, then you try two, then you slowly sneak number three in. If Scooby had lived, we were planning to get a third dog in the late spring because the both played so beautifully. Now he is gone, i am down to Bandit and desperately looking for a buddy for him, but my mind is set of three. I suppose three may lead to four as two or three or four is all the same work to me. |

What do you mean the manhood they share? The humping or something? Scooby was the humpee and Bandit was the humper, but as he was neutered scooby that is, bandit stopped humping, it was quite amazing and they both worked out their pecking order:cool: I somehow like boys for some reason, guess I have always had them as a child also:confused:. I am seeking an boy again as spaying a girl here costs from 500 to 700 Euros and I think that is murder, but that is not the reason for wanting a boy. I just get along well with the boys, I like to boss them around LOL |
Can you eat just one potato chip? If so, you're in the minority. Yes, you need a companion for your puppy. They won't pay any less attention to you when you're at home because they have each other. It will just give them a playmate and companionship. As to the barking and peeing...it probably won't get any worse, but it won't get any better either. If it's a male that's peeing, get a bellyband; if it's a female make sure it knows where the pee pad is and uses it. But, Yorkies are barkers! They like to communicate. |
A little girl would be a nice change for you...sugar and spice and everything nice... Dawn |
Oh yes .... and 5 are better than 4! They really do need a companion. I had Shadow alone for 6 years before the rest of them came along, and I always felt bad leaving him because he was by himself. Once I got Yorkie number 2, Gellica, they have been inseparable ... so inseparable that a few more came along! Good luck to you! |

Brooke~ you always know EXACTLY the right thing to say, LOL! You make me realize that it would be a really wonderful thing to get a little girl for Max to play with. I'm just waiting for the right $ time, LOL....hopefully, soon! I think Max would be happy to have a playmate; it's just convincing dh that Max won't feel "rejected" if we add to our family. |

:lol tears .... oh no I think we will go with a GIRL then ... |
I would love 2. But my husband was not happy about 1. Now he loves him! Maybe??? Good Luck! |
Go for it! I got two sisters at once so I've had two for awhile.. They had each other to play with and kept each other company. A lot of people said they'd grow up attached to each other and wouldn't bond to me, but thats not the case with my two. They both love me more than they love each other..lol I just added my third girl Tuesday.. She's a biewer and is a great addition! The girls took to her right away! Bailey is my barker and since adding Bella this week, I guess she's happy because she can have a reason to bark now.. :p Her and Bella (my biewer) have the biggest mouths. Brooklynn, Bailey's sister, is soo quiet and shy! But they all compliment each other very well!! I love having three! It's no different than having one or two! A lot of people say vet bills can be the only downfall, but my vet only charges one office visit for everyone and they usually don't charge me the full price for medications or anything I need for them. |
2 Attachment(s) well,, living with 3 Yorkie girls now,, I just wouldn't change it for a thing,,, thought there are days,, times,, when i think back to when it was just Cricket,, she was so tiny,, and I took her EVERYWHERE,, restaurants, shopping,, just Everywhere,, until some PSYCHO WalMart worker went NUTSO on me in the store,, only because 3 or 4 ladies in the store (ladies clothing) had noticed my "bag",,which was Crickets bag,, which i asked to take in with me to the dressing room to try on some jeans,,the young lady noticed the dog,, she was so thrilled,, had to show another lady co-worker,, then a couple of lady shoppers had to see too,,i did not take her out of her bag,, but let them see,, well, ,then arrived PSYCHO WalMart lady,, who chewed me out royally!!! DEMANDED I leave HER store Immediately!! oh it went on and on,, she followed out the door!!! you'd have thought i had a mangey pit bull or something!! but ,, i digress,, lol,, but up until THAT episode,,Cricket went EVERYWHERE I went,, couldnt bear to leave her,, paniced when i then HAD to leave her to grocery shop,, then hubby decided we needed to go ahead and get another girl who would be larger,, so we could later on raise some pups if we wanted,, so we added Daisy (MonsterDog),, then time she was nearing her second heat,, I had her fully checked out,, including skin scrapes to see about her rash on her back,, turned out she has Demodectic mange,,, so I had to have her spayed,, and our breeder "replaced" Daisy with our newest addition,, Trixie! we keep our Daisy of course,, but we got Trixie at no cost to us,, for later breeding.and,, for me,, its just,,, the more the merrier,,they are all sooooooooo cute,, 3 way tug of war,,, or 2 wrestle while one looks on or naps,, leaving Cricket home now while i go work out or shop is not a worry,, she has plenty of company, I do however agree, Cricket is more attached to me,, us ,, people, than she is to the other 2 Yorkies,, more like, ,We are her Pack,, and Daisy and Trixie are her pets! lol,, its really funny and interesting how Different all their personalities are,, something new and entertaining Everyday here,,I'm still amazed Daily,, at the fact of Cricket staying so tiny and delicate,, all my life,, wanted a dog to STAY tiny,, puppy like,, and here i have it!! Love it,, 1, 2, and now 3!! Absolutely Love it,, only real thought is space,, and $$, plenty of love to go around!! Enjoy in your decision!! |
yes, the more the merrier!! :D i cannot wait to find our house and then i hope to add more ;) |
:) Well, I have 3, and never even thought of having just one. I also have a dachshund. So I have 4 dogs, but 3 are Yorkies. They are a handful, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I love them all. I always have a couple of them sitting on my lap while watching tv. Right now I have all 4 of them under my desk. I put 4 little beds under there, and they lay there while I am on the computer. They are so much company. I would have to say, yes, get another dog if you can afford it. You will not regret it. It will give your little baby some company while you are away. Hope this helps. Darlene :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |
