Why doesn't he like me? My little Diggy who is 11 weeks old likes my boyfriend better than me! I'm the one who feeds him, gives him treats, plays with him, takes him out, everything, but he does not seem to bond with me like he does my boyfriend...he just bites me. We live together so he spends an equal amount of time with both of us. I have read that male Yorkies are partial to women but this seems to be the opposite. Could it be he is like this b/c I am the one that disciplines him when he goes on the carpet (just by saying "No Diggy", but no spanking!)? It's like he doesn't even pay attention to me. If Diggy has a choice between the two of us, he will go straight to him! What am I doing wrong? Is there something I should be doing different, some sort of activity that he'll love that is only for him and me? How can I make him like me more? Any suggestions are very welcome... |
Be the one that feeds him and gives him teats. Take him out on lots of walks. The biting is normal for a puppy. Chachi my boy has always been more affectionate towards my Husband. I started giving him lots of loving, walks, taking him with me places and he has become more affectionate towards me. |
i know what ur saying and how u feel we are the mommys and yet they love their daddys...i give martini all the love and attention and she still loves my boyfriend and when he is around its like forget mommy and when he isnt around she is my lil tail and follows me all over the house lol..so its just how it is i guess..i take her with me out and stuff and she loves me but when he is around she rather deal with him then me go figure so i completely understand |
Give him time. He is just a baby. Spend cuddle time with him, too. |
Sometimes they just take up to one parent or the other just like kids....he is young tho...things may change. I know my Diggy is TOTALLY my boy, if Im home noone else exists. I do all the feeding, grooming, and care tho so maybe thats why. That or I am just really cool and he knows it. lol Good luck with your baby! Where did you get the name Diggy? |

When we first got my puppy, I wanted him to bond to me, to be my dog. I kept him on a leash every second we were home (helps w/ potty training), and I took him (still do) everywhere with me. My hubby knew how important it was that this was my dog, so he pretty much stayed out of the way with him. Ranger bonded to me instantly. Now, if he gets mad at me, he will go sit on Robert's lap, but the second Robert disciplines him by telling him "no" to something, Ranger gets up pretty much flips him off, and comes to his mommy!! Maybe you could try to keep him on a leash while you're home, give him lots and lots of love, as well as the walks and food/treats. Also, take him with you everywhere possible, because I think that creates a bond. Good luck!!! |

I take him places too. I'm going to try to spend as much time with him as I can. Thanks for the great advice! |

Yeah, sometimes I feel like I would just rather raise him alone! lol jk. But I think I might tell my bf to not be so lovey and playful with him so he'll like me more eventually. That's mean but gosh it is making me jealous! Yeah I see great minds think alike! My sister and I thought of the name. I almost went with Ziggy but decided on Diggy. I sometimes wonder if people think I got it from Run's House (which it totally reminds me of) but I like that little guy on the show, he's cool so it's ok I guess. I think that name really fits my puppy's personality. |
Oops, I am obviously new at this. I meant to reply to Diggy4's post in my last comment. |
Also, I can't find a certain brand of treats he really loves. I've bought quite a bit of different kinds that he snubs his nose at. He likes cheese a lot but I would rather not feed him too much of that. Does anyone have any suggestions on a brand/type of treats that their young puppy enjoys? Maybe this will make him want me b/c momma's always got the goodies! And thanks for everyone who responded! I really appreciate all of you :) |
