Yes, that was aweful :eek: I never ever recommend someone leaving their pet overnight unless there is a 24 hour staff...someone MUST be there throughout the night to monitor the pets recovering from surgery. Otherwise, it is probably safer for the pet to be at home.

yeah reading this whole thing made me pretty upset too.. now i'm gonna be more careful about my vet.

At Ellie's vet a vet tech or two watch the animals overnight and a vet is always there (watching tv, napping) in case of a problem.:)

Can't you find a vet that is staffed 24 hours or bring her home with you?

aw...I bet she'll be okay. I highly doubt things like #5 happen very often...that was a result of being left unattended. I suggest only leaving her overnight where there is a 24 hour staff or bring her home with you.

All the places i checked they said i can't bring her home the same night, i can't even believe some places don't have 24 hour staff!:eek: I feel fine leaving her if there is overnight staff but still i will be sooo nervous and prob. up all night. I hope to find a place that i can bring her home the same day, im asking around and doing research

Yea that's what i will do or hopefully be able to pick her up the same day so i can watch her closely

It would be best to let them keep her if someone is there AWAKE but if you want to bring her home remember she is your dog. You can always do the spay and later that night force them to let you have her. They have to give her to you. Don't tell them your plans before hand though. :)

And Sarah, I sure do hope you are able to find a vet that will allow you to bring little London home the same night :( I brought Tatum home the same day she was spayed and felt SO much better about it. I know I never ever would of been able to leave her there overnight :(

I got to bring my girl home the same day, took her in at 8:00am and had her home by 2:00pm.......mind you, I sat with her until she was ready to go in and then sat in waiting room until she was done.............hehe maybe they just wanted me out of there!!:D

Try talking to the vet and explaining your concerns on leaving her overnight. My aunt said her vet didn't allow this, but she talked him into it and he finally gave in, but only after my aunt would sign like a disclaimer thing first. The one place I was going to take Bella too said they make them stay over night, but he would let Bella come home the same day, and I didn't even ask for it! I think they have a note in my file though, it was where Rocky was nuetered and I had a lot of questions and concerns, and it obviously bothered them from their reaction.

I already knew #5 happens... I would NEVER let Roxy spend the night at a vet... I'd tell them do what they have to do in the morning and I'll come get her at night... unless it was an all night Emergency Vet hospital, I would never leave her overnight with nobody there... That poor little doggy... I bet it had no idea what was going on...
As for #4, I think that is HORRIBLE!!! That a Vet would just ASSume that its okay to put a dog under anaesthetic, and only taken a WEEKEND COURSE!!! Thats basically a CRASH COURSE! Thats what they might as well call it... You're dealing with an animals life here... a living breathing thing...
I guess even some Vets dont see it that way... Too many ppl think of animals as heartless, soulless entities... Not as living little babies...

When Minnie was sick , I received regular reports on her by the vets taking care of her . I really appreciated their kindness toward her and telling me the truth even if sometimes it was very hard to hear .
