Well it all began two days ago, Peanut was going in circles trying to grab his tail and bite at it. My daughter was the first to notice and was like “Look mom Peanut wants to catch his tail.” :2popkorn: I have to admit it was a funny sight. However, this did not stop and he kept trying to get at his tail. So I figured okay he needs a bath and a little shave must be bothering him so while I was grooming him with the trimmers I looked down and “OH MYYYYYY a huge Tick was attached to his butt!” :shocked7q I have had trouble lately with ticks bad here for some reason but check him regularly. So yep ...... I go in and grab the little sucker!

Well that is not why I am here........ Well tonight I have Peanut in my lap and I am searching him for any ticks and of course I have a new spot I must look at now :eyebrow2:so I take his little stub tail and push it back and I FREAK out......... half out of his umm **** there is this white little worm. I cannot believe what I saw I take my nails and pull it out (told you to read at OWN RISK!) I have placed it on a piece of paper for the vet. I searched this site for what the heck this could be. :confused:

Before asked, YES he was treated for worms last year, November to be exact. So why in the world if that is it would he have them? If it is not that, what do I want to know when I go to the Vet? Could the tick have caused that? Sorry so long but I know details is the best way to get a clear picture or understanding for all the HELP I can get! Thank you! :thankyou2

It's a tapeworm.:)
The vet will give you meds for it.
They can get them from swallowing a flea (so can we).

Sounds like he swallowed a flea. They will give him worms. Your vet will give him something to get rid of them fairly quick. But you need to make sure he is treated regularly for fleas and ticks.

He swallowed a FLEA? Why not, he tries to eat everything else! LOL Thank you guys for such a fast response. I do use Advantage Multi on him once a month. This is suppose to help with lots of things (or so the box says). Is there something else that would be better?

That also brings up one more question. I have a cat but he stays outside most of the time, only comes in to eat. My thoughts on how the ticks are coming in are by him. Peanut hardly goes outside but I am always finding ticks on him.

Sorry, can't help you there. I used to use flea/ticks meds occasionally but now only use heartworm med. If I had to use something I would probably try something with pyrethrin (not permethrin) first. It doesn't work as well as others but may be safer for the furkids if you have to use insecticides.

Could it be tape worms instead of wring worms? make sure your human kids wash their hands a ton..

I think that is the only possible diagnosis.

oh my, let us know what the vet says.. and you can get stuff for ticks I am sure.. I thought tick season was over.. usually big in the fall of the year..

poor little guy, and they do so have a way of letting us know, even if it is trying to catch his tail... cute..

You have to wait 2 days after bathing them with Advantage or it wont work very well. There is no oils on their skin after a bath. My vet also told me to use a shampoo that has no soap. Worked wonders!

Tapeworms can go in cycles, so even if you get rid of these, they may come back. Mine all go thru them twice a year. You can get over the counter treatments. Just make sure they say for tapeworms. I get mine at a farm supply store. I can get the dogs in a powder that goes on their food. Of course, the cats only comes in a pill form and we all know how easy it is to get a cat to take a pill:D . It was my vet that told me about the cycles.

We don't worry to much about fleas or heartworm here. Apparently it's too cold here even for those critters :rolleyes: Tapeworms are another story though. Just about every spring my cat gets one. She is an outside cat in the summer and eats birds. Every spring we go to the vet and get pills and she gets one in the spring, one in the middle of summer and one right after the first snowfall. They aren't fun to pick up off the rug or pick out of a butt!!:(

You guys are so GREAT! I must start out like that so thank you! If I would not have had to actually live through this no lie...... I would be saying to myself "Is she crazy... taking things out of the but of WHAT :eek: ?) hehehe

I will be getting him and the creepy thing I pulled out of his you-know-what to the vet but ......"mypreciouspups" I was wondering something or maybe others can answer too. Last November I got the worm treatment from the Vet $$$$. If I Used the store med's would, it be just as good. I really would like to know because there is a savings there and with this little stud muffin this could cut into his pamper budget. So should I try that before buying his treatment (note if it IS WORMS... not going against his treatment if it’s something else of course).

I am just full of questions...... haven't thought this hard since writing my last English paper! lol
