Yep, an every night thing for one of my Yorkies. Water and a comb. Chipper's pretty accepting of the whole ordeal. For some reason the other two hardly have any buildup. Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |

Chachi has it every day it drves me nuts. I take a warm wet cloth to it then a flea comb |
thats what I have been doing as well |
I just had it for the first time today with Nolee. He always had the brown tear stain, which I clean daily also, but today it was the hard, brown, crusty, uch!! So this is normal?? |
Thats what someone had told me. Bentley has it everyday. We try to clean it while it is still wet but we don't stop time to clean up his hair. We dampen it and use a flea comb. |
There was a thread on here the other day about giving them only distilled water and that somehow helps?? I know both my babies have horrible gunky eyes. |
Wow...this is cool. The first really cool thing I learned on YT was how to get rid of eye gunk. One of those little finger toothbrushes is PERFECT! Just dampen the area first and comb it out. Voila! I bought a package of two. One I use for his teeth and the other one for the eye gunk. :) |
Oh we have the same thing here. I clean it with a cloth and it comes out while its still wet. If it goes under his eye and stains I use Crystal Eye it helps to clean the dry stuff out and clean stains. What it does is it softens the gunk and its easy to get it if it is right under the eye and I cant reach it with a brush :) |
I heard that there are some drops to prevent this. Don't know what they are called, or where to get. Worth looking into though. |
reading this gave me some good tips that im going to try out thanks i like the toothbrush idea i never thought of it and i think its great i cant wait to try it...shes so cute and then shes got this crap in her hair uggg it drives me crazy n she hates when i try to clean her we fight lol |
Just wanted to say if you use cotton balls, you may want to consider wash cloths... even better baby wash cloths. When my baby (skin) had an eye infection the dr. told us to use cotton balls.. since you can just throw them out and they are one time use "sanitary".. this went on for 4 months.. he finally got old enough for the EYE dr.. and he said never use cotton balls or anything of the liking.. even if you don't see it, the fibers can get in the eye, irritate it, and just make it worse. Could be the same for dogs?? Their eyes could produce more "gunk" to help protect them from foreign objects?? |
I always heard that if you feed them food or treats that have the red dye in it or orange in color it will make it stain worse. I read this on a breeders site for maltese puppies. Also they said certain types of water can cause it to get worse with the water has a lot of mineral in it? So i always give Maddie bottled water and all natural treats. |
