Time to give up MY JAZZIE? On Saturday I took my son to get a haircut, while the hair dresser was cutting my sons' hair we were talking about our pets. I mentioned to her that Jazzie has luxating patella, she will need surgery that maybe in the ball park of $2,000.00 or more. She suggests to me that perhaps I need to find my BABY a new owner!! My mouth and brain became disconnected, there I stood in disbelief that someone would suggest such a thing??!! She proceeded to tell me that she had a st.bernard, he was huge and had leg probelms, she was not able to afford the surgery so she found new owners for him, he had the surgery, she was able to visit, but since then gotten a pom, so she stopped visiting the st.bernard. As I drove still in shock, I thought... well, that is what adoption is all about. Yet my heart reminded me ... I would walk through fire for my kids and I will walk through it for My Furbabies!! Thanks for your support with Jazzies Journey at ..... petanim.com/competition-entries |
Wow, I wouldn't know what to say.... It's not time to give up your Jazzie that's for sure. I feel bad for her parents when they get older and start to go downhill, what happens to them... lol |
Aww! Bless you heart! Good Luck! Prayers going your way! |
Some people just have no clue what making a furbaby part of a family means. We'll be voting for Jazzie and praying that she wins. |
At least she found him a better home. Some owners who can't afford the surgeries just have their animals put down. It's funny, my dogs have been to the vet more times than I've been to the doctor. I don't have health insurance so I never go but if my animal needs to see a doctor, they go. Granted, their services are less than my office visit :) |
How can she even suggest giving away your baby when they need you the most. I wouldn't want her for a mother. |
This kind of stuff makes me so mad. I would give up everything for anything for my furbaby. That lady took on the responsibility of a dog and should of never got a replacement, this dog could have problems also and then what is she gonna do? Give that dog up too? AHHH.. sorry had to get it all out. GOOD LUCK< ILL DEF VOTE :) |
Well, some people don't think their pets are family members:( At least she got her St. Bernard the help she couldn't afford. I would do anything I could to keep mine healthy as I know most on here would also! Maybe it's time to find your son a new hairdresser?! Good luck with Jazzy's surgery. I have been voting for her! :) |
Been voting for Jazzie every day ! |
It takes all kinds doesn't it. Thank goodness there are more of "us" than "them" Sheilagh. |
It is expensive, but so worth it! I'll keep voting!! |
We're going to start voting too :p ...Yes, it sure does take all kinds  |
OMG!!! My Bailey has luxating patella also, and I would trade places with her in a N.Y. minute if I could. Some people are soo heartless, I can't believe it!!! |
You know, I honestly don't know what to say either. Some people just don't "bond" with their pets like other people do...and when health problems arise and they don't want to pay for the costs that come along with those health problems, alot of times they will just "get rid" of the dog - it is so very sad  I can understand that some people honestly cannot afford such high medical bills, and therefor to better the animal, they re-home them. However, I think alot of people just think it's "stupid" to spend such a high amount of money on a pet, therefor they simply don't do it. I remember telling the people I used to babysit for that my Cocker Spaniel's surgery was going to be $800, and they thought I was nuts. I mean they looked at me like I had lost MY mind - therefor I looked at them like they had lost THEIR mind thinking to myself, "ok - you people HAVE a dog...so I'm guessing that if YOUR dog needed a costly surgery, you just wouldn't get it for him". Then, the husband pretty much answered the question that I never even asked out loud. He said, "G*t d*mn, if my dog needed a surgery that was that much, I'd just put the thing to sleep". (Little did he know, I would have paid a HECK of alot more than $800 for my baby. Money is never an issue with me when it comes to the health of my babies. I'll GET the money somehow, I don't care how much it is.) Anyway, at that point, excuse my french, but I was P!SSED BEYOND WORDS. I didn't even BOTHER saying another word to him after that. I just shook my head and said nothing. There is no sense in trying to reason with a person like that, because it's impossible. But what I don't understand is, if you are THAT cold hearted toward your pet, why even bother owning one? Dogs are just like humans in that health problems ARE going to arise eventually, and if you don't care enough about the dog to get it medical attention when he/she needs it, then you have no business being it's owner. I'm sorry, but it really is just THAT simple. These kinds of subjects just infuriate me. It never makes sense to me how people can be so STUPID and say the dumbest things regarding their pets, and other peoples beloved pets. I think they should all come with an "IDIOT" sign on their forehead so that we will know to just stay away  |
We need to care for our pet but also each other... Many don't have money for health insurance and can't afford proscription dugs...As we see prices climb in all our stores for everything, then to face a surgery to keep our dogs going or our maybe family. What is the answer.... If you can't afford to have the dog fixed and your on a limited income, you may have to consider other options. It cost me 875 dollars to save Mic's life last yr... If I'd had small children and limited income I may not have been able to do so... It would have been a devastating situation... But thank God and only him I was able to do so.. with his help.. You can't condemn someone for finding a better way for their pet as many in the puppy mill business just put dogs down once they are of no use.. I think that's where the concentration should be for concern, as many of these dogs have never been held or comforted or know human touch or companionship they are dollar machines...:( :( |
