Solid Gold Anyone??
 

I have been looking for something to give Roxy as a good change from Eukanuba. For the past 4 months I have wanted to change her (if not longer), but everytime I did she got sick. I am going to try one more time, and I talked to a lot of vets who told me theyre against a "raw" diet. Which I thought I wanted to do, but it scares me too much to give Roxy something that she will get Salmonella or EColi or something else... So, I will be cooking her meat, and also keeping her on a dry. I am thinking about changing to Solid Gold Hollistic, Just A Wee Bit. It has NO BY PRODUCTS! Which is a HUGE deal for me...

The only thing that kinda bothers me is that... "Salmon Meal"... Can anybody tell me if they use Solid Gold, and if they do, which one? and how they think it is for their furbabies, and if you noticed any difference??

I switched to Solid Gold three days ago, and my babies are loving it. Maggie had an allergic reaction to Canidae. So we're experimenting, I'm trying to find something they both like. I like the ingrediants in the Solid Gold.
I got the one made with fresh bison and salmon meal, "Just a WEE Bit"
It's in a purple bag. The lady at the natural food store said it was good.

Kiwi is on the Solid Gold puppy formula. She really likes it and I have been happy with it as well. She has "solid" poops on it as well.:D

I think that salmon meal is okay, it means the meat without water content, I think. What you don't want is meat by-products. So I feel good about Kiwi eating it.

Yeah, I know the "by product" is the worst, and thats why I wanted to get Roxy off of Eukanuba... Plus I hate any Iams product because I know they test on animals. This is why I am switching her, for all of these reasons!!! I really think Solid Gold sounds the best from what I have seen. So, "Salmon Meal" isnt that bad? I mean, I know its not as bad as "by product", but I just want to make sure that its healthy for her.

I feed Lola and her chihuahua cousin that and they love it.

I feed Rowdy and Rexy Solid Gold Wee Bits. I started when Rowdy was a baby - about 3 years ago because it was a good quality food and the kibbles were the smallest I could find. Rowdy would NOT eat the larger kibbles so it was pretty much my only option in the higher quality food.

They both eat it really well, so I have never tried anything else. I guess you could say we are all pretty happy with it.

That's great!!! Good to hear I am getting all this positive feedback about Solid Gold. It was the only thing I found at Petco that I thought seemed like it had decent ingredients in it.

I hear it's really good. I'm switching Alphy to it. I got some sample packs and he's loving it. I'm mixing it with his other food and gradually just switch completely.

I have nothing but good reviews for Solid Gold.
 

I feed my girls Solid Gold barking at the moon. its a natural no grain/high protein diet thats for performance dogs. the girls have been on it for ever!

What's the difference between the "Barking at the Moon" and the "Just A Wee Bit"?
Because, Roxy won't eat anything that the pieces are too big. She is just too picky.

"Just A Wee Bit" is a diet for petite pups. its got really small kibbles.
barking at the moon is one of those no grain diet. it's got bigger kibbles but not big at all to me. i've got two girls both weigh slightly more than 3lbs and they've got no problems with it.

The first two ingredients in this food are named meat products. The second of these is meat inclusive of water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that these ingredients would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). However, since it is preceded by a meat meal ingredient in large quantity, we can have very high confidence in the level of meat content of the food.


This is an entirely grainless dog food. The major carbohydrate source is potatoes, which are also a good source of B vitamins and other minerals. There is a good range of fruits/vegetables in the food, whole eggs and a good range of probiotics. Tomato pomace is fibre/filler.


This food is outstanding in that it contains no grains whatsoever. Grains are not a natural part of a canine diet and it is pleasing to see dog foods on the market that exclude grains completely from the diet. This is a far more natural food concept and the high meat content combined with a lack of any low quality or controversial ingredients is the reason this food is placed in a class above the more conventional form dry dog foods.


The only caution we would make on this food is that the high protein content makes it suitable for adult dogs only, particularly in the case of large breeds.
