Need to find a good kennel I'm trying to find a good kennel for Brody. We have to travel for a week and we were unable to find a hotel that would allow pets and he doesn't do well with long car trips. :( I did post in the regions forum, but there seems to be more traffic here. :) What should I be looking for in a good kennel? How does it look? We live in the Alexandria, VA/DC area. We've checked out the boarding service our vet offers, but it seems a bit cramped and not very cheerful. It was a major holiday when we took the tour and at shift change. It was loud and smelly. It would probably have scared Brody poopless. He doesn't do well with other dogs as it is. The kennels for the smaller dogs were like mini cement dog runs. Big enough for a small dog bed, bowls and a tiny bit of walking room. Not that they can have beds. They're only allowed towels and no toys. There is a narrow walk way between the two rows of kennels. They were stacked two high and two deep. There is a divider between two lengthwise that can be opened if they aren't too booked. Then they'd have access to a bigger area. They get 3 walks during the day. They do offer off leash one-one play for an additional fee. One of the techs said that they pretty much did that for everyone if they had the time. So I probably didn't have to pay for it unless I wanted guaranteed off leash time. The outside play area looked to be the best part of the facility. Does this sound like a normal boarding facility? Maybe I was expecting a bit more since they really brag about the facility on their website. I'm really not sure how to judge a good from a bad place. I'm pretty worried about Brody having a good experience. Thanks!! |
