tongue VS. metal threshold I know this should be in the Sick/injured and it is, but I am not getting a response and I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me. I'm thinking about calling the Emergency Vet. Lexie and I were outside and she is going through this stage where she needs to lick everything. Long story short she tried to lick the metal threshold of the door and in -10 degrees F, her tongue stuck to it. I was going to go inside to get warm water, but by the time I came back out with the water she had RIPPED her tongue off the threshold. She is bleeding now and she won't let me look at it. (And I can't convince her to stick out her tongue so I can see it ) The bleeding doesn't seem too back but I can't really tell because she is licking her leg like CRAZY. I don't know if the soft hair makes it feel better or what but she is getting blood on the blanket under neath her. What should I do?! Should we go to the vet or is there something I can give to her or what?! HELP PLEASE!!! __________________ |
ouch :( I have no idea, can you call a vet and get advice? Or have someone help you hold her and get a better look |
I would call them now! If she is bleeding bad. Call and see what they think.... |

I would definitly call, she could have tore her tongue.......... Let us know what they say...... |
My sister just got home and she held her while I opened her mouth. There is no visible cut/tear on her tongue and she actually is sleeping comfortably right now. The bleeding has stopped completely. I will wake up early tomorrow (Lexie gets up at 6 am like clock work) and check everything out. If it is swollen or anything else seems out of whack I'll bring her in. Thanks for the speedy responses!!! I love all YTers!! |
We will be thinking of you guys tonight! Hope everything is fine in the morning! |
  Poor sweet baby!! You may have trouble getting her to eat until it heals. It will probably hurt like crazy. Did you notice if there was much stuck to the threshhold? That should give you a bit if info about how much was pulled off. Poor baby. It makes my stomach hurt just thinking about it. |
When my baby bit her tongue deep it bled well imo alot. I rushed her to the vet and he told me not to worry because even though the tongue does tend to bleed quite a bit that it doesn't last long and that it is one of the faster healing parts of the body. I woul,d still have her checked if things don't look right in the morning i just thought maybe knowing what i was told would make you feel a little better and not so worried. In other words hoping it would help you sleep :) I know when i am totally worried about something i cannot sleep a wink :( |
oh my gosh! The exact same thing happened to Zoe about 2 weeks ago. She didn't bleed at all but I'm sure it must've hurt. She seemed fine afterwards. I still don't like to think about it! But I'm sure your baby will be fine. Poor thing. |
