Chunk's diagnosis Today we took our Chunk to an Animal Eye Specialist and he informed us that Chunk had Retinal Degeneration at an advance stage. We are at a loss because our little guy is only 9 months old. I've already cried my eyes out and I know there will be more when the family gets home tonight. We know he can and will have a very loving and fulfilling life. We just have to make some adjustments and make his enviroment as safe as possible. He is so loving with his family, (humans and 3 canine siblings) and he gets so much love in return. We know that our little guy, (at 14lbs), is a gift from God and there must be some reason why He placed him with us. Please keep us and others who have and are experiencing similar situations in your prayers. You are all in ours. Chunk's mom A righteous man regards the life of his animal..... Proverbs 12:10 |

I am so sorry about Chunk's diagnosis, but I think you'll be surprised how well he adapts. I belong to a canine diabetes website (Lady is a diabetic) and since most diabetic dogs go blind, we hear a lot of stories about blind dogs. It's always the owners who are most upset in the beginning, not the dogs. After a period of adjustment, most people report how amazed they are that their blind dog can still get around so well. We have one girl who was able to start jogging again with her Lab by tying his leash to her waist! Living With Blind Dogs is a book that many people rave about: This website is also a wonderful resource: http://www.blinddogs.com/ |
What a devestating diagnosis for such a young dog. I am so sorry. Your right, God did place him with you so he would have the love and care he so rightfully derserves. It is my understanding that dogs and cats do very well without their site. It us human's who suffer knowing our pet is siteless. Hugs to all of you. |
He is lucky to have such a loving family. Sending warm healing thoughts your way. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. |
blind dog I have a female "Summer" who has been blind for about 5 years now. She wasn't a baby like your's when she went blind but she gets along much better than you would expect. It's a terrible thing at such a young age but if he is healthy otherwise, it is probably not such a terrible thing. Good luck with your baby |
Awe, 'm really sorry to hear about this. I'm sure Chuck will have a very rich and fulfilling life regardless. God bless you for standing by him and loving him even more. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and Chuck. |
Sorry to hear this on your little puppy. God has given you a special little one, and knows your family is the one he needs to be with. I know he is where he is suppose to be. You are already looking for advise to learn how to help him. You will get lots of help here, and from God! Bless your special little one, and your family! I am sure all hearts will be filled with a special love! |
