I do not think you are wrong, if I had babies I would not let them go to someone who was going to put them in a room all day. You did what you think is wright, you were looking out for the pups best interest. I think it is great of you, you deserve praise. |
It really depends on the couple/person. I am placing a puppy with a single woman who lives alone and has no children and she works and will leave Dolly home while she works but I explained to her that I would get an Xpen big enough with plenty of toys and leave on the TV or radio while she is gone. I feel Dolly will be in a very loving home even tho this lady works. Dolly is going to be soooooooooooo spoiled! She is doing everything I have asked and I feel confident that Dolly is going to be in a loving home! Again, it depends on the person. If I felt in anyway this little girl wouldn't be loved and just left home and not spoiled when her new mom came home she wouldn't be going. And....the lady I am placing her with is interested in a future puppy from me to give her a playmate. So...with that said it depends on who the person is....My dogs only go with people I know are going to be a loving home. If I get a bad vibe and my gut is pretty dead on I won't place a puppy in that situation....All my placed puppies are in wonderful homes!! Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
well, i would say,if the lady was to put the pup in a utility room, i don't know if that is a good idea. I have a space in my apt where i have the gated area for the girls with their essentials such as food , water, their crates, toys, comfy bed outside to hang out, blankies. You name it, they have it in there. I want them to be comfortable and happy when i am not home. Whenever i look at them through the webcam, they are either sleeping or playing..what a life!:rolleyes: |

Even though I could tell this lady really loved her dog, I was concerned because they thought their dog might have got hold of some poison. Apparently they let him run around outside in the country. I just cannot go along with those owners that just open the door and let their babies run around unsupervised, there are too many dangers out there, even if you are in the country. |
Of course it is ultimately your decision as to whom you sell your dogs to. You have every right to turn down anyone that you don't feel entirely comfortable with. With that said, I do have to say that if no breeders ever sold to people based soley on the fact that they work, I think a very large percentage of us on YT would not have these beautiful pets - and that would be a shame. My husband and I work full time - I work an hour away from home but my husband is an insurance adjustor who is on the road part and sometimes most of the day. I think for the most part though Tatum is only crated for 4-5 hours at a time. I know she just sleeps while she's in there and she seems to be very happy. I feel the same way about breeders who absolutely won't sell to people with children. My children's world would not be the same had it not been for the toy poodle we had when they were babies and now Tatum. But that's a whole 'nother thread, right? Again, it's ultimately your decision but I don't think "working dog owners" are the worst choice out there. There are many other factors that should be taken into consideration. |

Personally, I think you were right, I wouldn't leave a young pup alone for hours and hours a day, day in day out, I think it's so sad for the pup, these dogs crave human company and that of their own, now if the pup would have another yorkie to keep him/her company then its not so bad. I'm out of the house 4 hours a day, I work 10am-2pm so i have the morning to spend with Pixie (my yorkie) and Bruce (my staffy) and the rest of the afternoon and evening. I wouldn't take on full time work because of my dogs, but i understand that most of us have to work full time and if you have a dog you should make other arrangements for their quality of life. The pup is your baby, you have every right to make the descision on the type of home you want for him/her.;) |

I do agree with this...... given the fact that this pup is already the age it is, there are a lot of things he is used to. If you are able to be with him all day this far, you should probably look for someone that can do the same. And yes, temperments are definitely formed according to how they are raised (most of the time). Both of our indoor dogs (first the toy poodle and now the Yorkie) were "supposed to be" hyper-ish yappy dogs (according to most of what I had read) BUT we ended up with very laid back dogs. I strongly feel that this is because of how our household is. You should try your best to match up your pup and the new owner according to what you know your pup to need. Good luck! |
I think you made the right decision. To me, a utility room is a room with no windows and one puppy all by himself would be so lonely. My husband and I both work but I only work 7 hours a day and live 1 mile from my work. My babies have free run of our first floor and a doggy door to an enclosed porch. I also go home for lunch everday to feed and play with my babies. I would hate to see a little 8 month old locked in a utility room every weekday all by himself. I wonder why she wouldn't at least have him confined to a room where there would be windows. You must be a great breeder!! |
I cannot believe someone would lock a puppy up in the utility room. Don't they know there are alot of dangerous stuff in the utility room. My two pups have their own crates and one large on they can share. Depending on which one they go in the morning is where they stay. They have water bottles, nice soft beds, warm cozzy blankets, and pee pads. My best friend that lives across the street comes over at lunch to play with them and take them outside for potty/play time. Plus my friend hangs out with them when the weather is bad (Rocky is scared of thunder and lightening). Plus, I leave the radio on for them everytime I have to leave them at home. Good luck finding a really good home for your pup. |

bjh i agree..all the babies need to be with some1...i work in an office but my boyfriend has his own business so martini is always with one of us...thats y we cant get another one at the moment...but thank god he has his own co. so she is with us 24/7..we even took her to atlantic city with us lol |
