How to make my old yorkie get along with the new yorkie Hi all I have had a new puppy for 1 month and my Daisy that I have had for 3 years doesn't want anything to do with the new puppy kipper. Any ideas on what I can do to get them together?:( |
I imagine only time will change the situation. Daisy should in no way feel that she has been dethroned. She should, actually, get more attention. She's jealous, you know. Just like kids. I think it would help if you could take them out together a lot. Sort of let a friendship begin when they are out exploring and such...:) Good luck! |
Thanks, I think your right I need to make sure they are exploring and doing things together. Do you think I should keep them in the same room together? Because right now they always go into seperate rooms to sleep |

When Minnie was a year old I thought she needed a playmate,so I bought Scamp when he was 6 weeks & Minnie did not want anything to do with him...:animal36 It just takes time Just like a Human child bringing a new baby home...there is gelousy & all that stuff.. They are best friends now & Minnie is not acting like the statue she used to be she actually plays with Mr Scamp:D Minnie is now 3yrs old & Scamp is 2 yrs old!! Just wait they will love each other...everything just takes time!!!! |
I brought Angel home about a year ago. Bailey was 20 months then. Bailey was so mad at me she would not even look at me. Angel is just happy go lucky and would jump into Bailey's bed with her :p and would want to play. It took Bailey about a month to accept her fully. They now sleep cuddled up in one of their beds. It helps to have seperate bowls, food and water although they now both eat out of one then move on to the next. And to have their own toys and believe me they know what is theirs! :) Give it time and don't force it. Just make sure you give both a lot of attention.:) Mine are together everywhere now. My avitar picture shows how they normally sleep, back to back. |
I hear that you should introduce them in a new environment and then bring them home together at the same time (when you see that they are getting along). Since they've already been introduced, I agree that it's only a matter of time. Maybe you can make a game out of the situation and give them treats for everything they do together (ie. when they are in the same room, when they sit next to each other, etc.). Good luck! |
Walking the dogs together will help with this. Walks are bonding experiences for dogs and their people, so it will help them understand that they are all members of one big pack. |
We had Gracie almost a year before we got Hallee and it took Gracie awhile to adjust. Give it some time. Now they would not know what to do without each other. |
Peaches who is 5 yrs old didn't want anything to do with broadie age 9.5 wks old when i brought broadie home. She would walk away from him or growl and snap. I wasn't sure if they would ever get along but i just kept getting them in the floor playing with them and letting them interact with each other and in a couple days i noticed they would play with each other little by little now they sleep together. Give it a few days and they with be used to each other and get along. Good Luck |
Well over the weekend I took them out on walks everyday and I can't believe that Daisy went over to Kipper and was sniffing where he was and exploring the same things he was, so I think they is hope after all, I've been giving her more love too so she won't be jealous, I'm going to keep walking them for sure because I was just so happy to see them together. After the walk I sat them both on Daisy's bad and was able to take a picture of them, I was so excited!!! Thanks for all the advice, I guess I just need to be patient, I can't wait for the day I find them sleeping together!:D :D :D :aimeeyork As soon as I can figure out how to put a picture up I will share it with you all |
Awesome! Glad to hear they are getting together time! I am sure they love you for it! |
