Nutri-cal I have been giving Lily nutri-cal puppy since I have had her, at what age do I stop giving it to her or do I switch to nutri-cal adult. The vet said it is all up to me and that she does not find it to absolute necessary so I just wanted some opinions.:D |
Its not necessary unless she is sick or not eating |
i was told to give it to her all the time from the vet he yelled at me for stopping it...so now she gets it once a day... |
I think I would change vets...I bought nutrical one time in my life, and never will again, for one thing, karo syrup works just as well, and cost a lot less, and it's something I can use also..having too much nutrical is NOT good for them, and you need to stop..as long as she's eating, drinking and not lethargic, she shouldnt be having nutrical. |
ya they flat out yelled at me...martini dont eat alot so i play it safe.. Quote:

Leave her food down 24/7 I wouldn't put up with a vet yelling at me...I would still go to another vet, having nutrical when she doesn't need it, is NOT good for her.. |
ya we are changing vets we already discussed it...thanks for all ur help |
I would think it all depends on the pup, size, age, how good it eats. how strong it is. I know Im caring for two Yorkie pups 3 weeks old and the boy the lady almost lost we had him on a small drop every feeding until he got his strenght back and now 2 drops a day. If you had your baby on it for awhile you will want to slowly take them off it. thats what we are now doing with this little boy. |
Oh I see you said nutri cal I was talking about nutri drops, I had my small male Mickey on Nutri cal 2 times a day when he was a baby.but he was not a big eater. |
Nutri-Cal is of course much better than Karo syrup because Nutri-Cal has quite a few ingredients added such as Vitamin A, D, E, B1, B2, B6, B 12, Niacin, Folic acid, Omega 3 fatty acids and a whole lot more. It's used on puppies or seniors whos health is compromised, and the extra nutrients is very important. However, I wouldn't use this as a source of an everyday vitamin. |
Both vets I've had(and I think myfairlacy will agree), that when it's needed, karo syrup works the exact same way...you shouldn't be giving nutrical, karo syrup or anything else, in less they're lethargic, not eating, drinking. I threw away a whole tube of it, it cost around $9 at the time, and was a waste of money...karo syrup I can use all the time.. |
Thank you all for your input, lily was on it because until recently she was very sick and not eating so she had big problems with hypoglycemia. She is wonderful now. So I was not sure what to do, thank you all again you are very helpful. |
Nutrical is a big tube of sugar basically. Its good if your pup isn't eating very much and your worried about hypoglycemia. It should not be used as a vitamin supplement because there really isn't alot of nutrients in it. Its just sugar, which is why others say karo syrup works just as well. |
