stinky puppy! Hey everyone, So I got my puppy about a month ago from boyfriend:kiss4:. When i first got him he was 11 weeks and boy was he stinky. I just assumed that its cause he's a puppy I know that puppy skin dries out when you give him a bath. so as soon as he turned 12 weeks I gave him a bath:grin2:. Every part of him smells fine except his ears! is that common for a yorkie:confused: ? if so can we clean it ourselves or am I going to have to take him to a groomer? and is it common for him to shake. he shakes sometimes I dont know if he's cold or if he's scared. he shakes when there are unfamiliar people are around and when he's a couple of feet away from me. he's probably about a 1 lb and 8 oz and 13 weeks is it common for a small dog to shake like this? thank you for any advice! |
Get your puppy to a vet!!! Did you get him from a breeder? Research is important before buying a Yorkie, and if he didnt know what he was doing, that can be bad... If your puppy is constantly stinking it can mean that they have a skin infection... There is one thats really bad, and I cant think of the name of it... But it could also be dietary problems, intestinal problems, many different things, if you keep washing your Yorkie & spraying him with doggy cologne, and he still stinks... Get him to the vet! Don't take chances with your baby! |
Mange... thats what I am thinking of.... Mange, I am sure its probably not that bad... altho, it can be, its a very serious disease, and if you love your puppy you will get him to the vet right away, and you will find out where your boyfriend got your puppy & you will go to the place he got it, and try to find out as much about the sire and dam as you can and ask to see them and their surroundings and their bill of health... Dont take any chances! |
Oh, I'm sorry, since your post was so pink, I couldnt read it well, so I highlighted it... Its probably an ear infection, or ear mites, or some kind of stuff down in there... get some cleaner, and take a Q-tip and clean it out... The dogs ear canal makes a 90 degree turn, so you dont have to worry about hitting an ear drum. He might squeal, but thats cause its uncomfortable, as long as youre not doing it too hard cause you could still hurt the inside of his ear, but not the ear drum. So, get some cleaner, and clean it out for about 10 days... if the smell doesnt subside then take him to the vet and have him checked since he might have some parasites or something in there... |
Max had the exact same problem no matter how good he smelled his ears smelled bad so of course i took him to the vet and they were shocked at all the gunk and build up in his ears they pulled the hair out of inside them and flushed them real good and even though they didn't see any earmites they still wanted to treat him for them and i tell you what about 3 days later Max was a changed puppy! I can tell now that he must have been feeling yucky because before he played but boy not like he does now he is a wild one so i would def suggest getting him in to see a vet. Good luck please keep us posted. |
puppy Your puppy needs a head to toe, inside and out vet check..best wishes |
Mine(the one I got at 6 weeks) was stinky too, I bathed her as soon as I got her home(they can be bathed before 12 weeks), and come to find out, it was earmites...I would get your puppy to the vet, and tell them to check for earmites |
We got Maggy May at 6 weeks old and the conditions she came from was HORRIBLE. We took her and Gibbs straight to the vet and they had many things wrong with them, two of which were ear mites and a yeast infection in the ears. They put them on two different meds and were to be on the one for a yeast infection for two weeks. After two weeks, I took her back for another check up and the yeast infection was still there but the mites were dead. The vet has me giving her the meds for the yeast infecton for another two weeks. Perhaps your baby has a yeast infection in the ears? I'd get to the vet and find out and get the treatment needed ASAP. |
Hi When I first brought Tootsie home, i noticed that she kept scratching at her ears, and whining, so I took her to the vets and it was ear mites. She was treated for it, and all was well. I don't remember her having any kind of a smell, though. Maybe because we got to it early enough. |

omg it took me over 6 monthes to find this puppy! but he is worth the time. i actually was the one who was hunting for the puppy my boyfriend was just the one who paid for it haha. I am a picky person saw about 10 different breeders before finally picking this puppy. each and every breeder gave me their own advice and suggestions, I believe that this puppy came from a good honest breeder. he's been breeding for nearly as long as my life! haha and he came with a one year health guarantee. I took him to the vet the day after i picked him up and they said everything is great! is it possible for him to get the earmites afterwards? what are the possible causes? I just looked in his ears and there are icky brown stain in it! i think that is the cause of the odor. thank you for the advice! this site is really helpful! |

That was the very first thing the vet did was check Buddy's ear's. He told me most puppies can come with ear mites. I freeked! Never heard of such a thing. However he stated he has never seen such clean ears on a puppy as Buddy's:p as long as he's been a vet! I can't imagine a puppy smelling. Thats a shame. Poor baby should smell yummy. Hope you can get to the bottom of the problem and enjoy what a puppy should smell like. |
My vet at the time, was an excellent vet, but, that's the one thing he didn't check, and yes, they can get earmites after they've been home...those ears need checked though, I'm sure it's really bothering him |
My dog had an ear infection and that may be what yours has. Might want to visit the vet. |
