Found Parti Yorkie for $1000.00 too good to be true? Hello, I found a breeder who is USDA certified and is advertising a male parti yorkie for $1000.00. I am concerned over the price. It is a fabulous deal but way below the prices I have found. Any questions or suggestions to ask the breeder. Has offered references states they will be 7lb grown-- is that the problem. The breeder has offered to give references, 1 year health guarantee for genetic defects. Puppy will have to be flown to me since I am not close.... If you can help I would grately appreciate. I have always been told "if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, then it is a duck??-- too good to true that it is.... |
Stay away from USDA breeders...usually points to a puppymill or a BYB kennel situation at the best. USDA lisenced is a big red flag. |
I'd say walk away before it quacks at you. |
What is USDA, I'm trying to learn. Thank-you |
Thanks for the help I questioned the price and was told that that since puppy was only CKC registered and not AKC that was the price difference. It is not housebroken-- I have major concerns--- The yorkie that I purchase last nov. is awesome-- paper trained when I got him- Saw both parents and breeders house-- never had any issue with hyperglycemia... So I am very cautious.. |
This is taken from the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America: http://www.ytca.org/faq.html "Parti-Color Yorkshire Terriers? Do not be fooled into buying one of these dogs. Now that Designer Dogs are the rage, the “new” Parti-Color Yorkie is certain to draw attention. While we have had problems in the past with “rare gold” Yorkshire Terriers being advertised, the parti-color is a new one! While some breeds have an occasional mismark and some breeds do have a gene for a white dog, we do not. Had there been a problem with white markings, piebald dogs, or white dogs, it would have been addressed in our Standard. Due to unscrupulous breeders advertising parti-colored Yorkshire Terriers at premium prices, our members voted unanimously at our annual meeting to add a disqualification for these and other off colored dogs." In other words, the American Kennel Club does not accept them; so ethical breeders aren't selling them. |
This is just my personal opinion, so take it as you will. I would NOT buy from this person....no way, no how!!!!! USDA is required when they have over a certain amount of dogs (not sure how many, but I know it's a lot). They are typically notorious for being the puppy mills. :thumbdown Since they are not AKC,I would bet my right arm that they are not purbred Yorkies and they are just a pricey mix. If you truly want a parti colored Yorkie, do your research on the breeders that you can trust. So, yes,I would say that it is probably a duck. Tammy |
USDA licensing is for commercial breeders |
I don't know about the parti(how old is he)? I actually bought a beautiful female biewer from a very reputable breeder, and the only reason I sold her was because she was only housebroken to go outside, and my other ones were all pee pad trained, so decided to rehome her..Anway, there are some good prices on some biewers out there.. |

I saw a few "Parti Yorkies" on Petfinder.com that looked NOTHING like yorkies (regardless of color). |
Thank you for helping to confirm what I had already felt!!! No I am definitely going to pass. I have contacted my breeder of my Harley and she has puppies- I can live without the parti-- I know with her that I will get an excellent dog.. He is 14 months and is a fabulous dog.... He is not a yapper and is a dream... Only concern is if I get another dog- what sex- female or male would be a better addition--- he is defiantly an only child and has not even been around another dog since he left the breeder- at the vet he just checks the other dogs out--- I feel like he would love someone to play with but do not want to risk changing his personality suggestions would be appreciated.... |
