STILL pooping in crate I don't know what to do!! I wanted to start training Lexie to be in a crate when we got her a the begining of December and she kept FREAKING out when she was in there and she would poop all over! So I bought an x-pen and she learned out to escape within hours. Then I tried putting her in my bathroom and shutting the door but she would poop right away like she did in the crate but then she would drag it EVERYWHERE and it was a WAY worse mess than before. So I'm trying the crate again. In the last 5 times she has been in there, she has spread poop from one end to the other 4 times. What should I do!??!:confused: |
Oh my, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that. Is the crate small enough so that she can only stand up and turn around? They usually won't mess in their beds. If she's spreading it around it sounds like she doesn't mind laying in it. If the crate is small enough and she's still messing in it I'm not sure what else to do. I think xpens are the best...my biewer kept escaping his too when I got him, so hubby took a piece of board and hinges and made a lid for it.. |
it took my little girl 4 months to stop pooping in the crate. you have probably been told this a thousand times but make sure she does not eat after 6pm and make sure you put her out to go potty as late as you can and keep her out there until she does something. it will eventually stop |
First step: make the crate her haven. Praise her and let her know she is a "good girl" when she's inside (don't force her inside). Give her a treat so she knows she is doing something good. If you haven't already, put a bed/bedding inside the crate. If she hasn't stopped, there may be some underlying problems (http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.html): "The pup has worms. The pup has gaseous or loose stools. The pup drank large amounts of water [or ate a large amount of food] prior to being crated. The pup/dog is suffering from a health condition or illness (i.e., bladder infection, prostate problem, etc.)" Good luck! |
