Greenies Yes or NO i read on a different forum that greenies changed their product. is this true? are they ok to use now? gloria |
Yes, they changed them, my dogs still love them, but, they don't take as long to eat anymore..I know a lot of people won't give them anymore, but, I still give them, and they have really helped my oldest yorkie(almost 5) teeth..I buy the teenie or petite for mine, but, am always right with them when they eat them..The vet I take my dogs too carries them still and he said they are good for them..Guess you have to decide for youself if you want to give them or not.. |
I know that the formula has changed but I only give to my little ones once every couple of months. I now give me little ones these green mint sticks made by beefeaters. My dogs love them and they are all natural and dissolves as they chew. They have all different types of flavors. |
I know I gave a few to my yorkie then finally read on it where if they are under a certain weight not recommended. So of course with Zoie only 3.5 I stopped giving them to her. She was under the weight requirements. So when the larger dog gets them I just give his in another room so she can't get it. |
I don't trust them, reformulated or not:( It's not worth it to me. |

Hmm thats my dilemma too. Maxi loves those silly greenies and I have read that they changed greenies so it can dissolve good. I am still very concern about it. I give Maxi once in a while but now there is only few left and I dont know if I will get more. I also use this virbac flat bones that he loves they suppose to be good for teeth, cleaning tar and for good breath. Those bones serve the same purpose as the greenies. |
I dont like them. But to each their own, My vet still carries them and he offers them to everyone...I pass on them |
 I AGREE! Quote:

One word: NO! Mind you, this is JMO...but I would NOT give them to my babies. Not under any circumstances. :thumbdown There is absolutely no sense in risking it when their are, what I believe to be, better, SAFER products out there for our babies. Why take chances? |
i dont trust them so i don't give them to my girls..they've never had greenies. i dont think they miss out much since they love their Merrick flossies or bully sticks and also sweet potato chew sticks. I feel safer and better giving them those than greenies. |

Bad experience w/greenies My little one swallowed the end piece of a (petite-size) greenie. He then tried to cough it up, but started coughing up blood instead. We rushed him to the hospital, where they thought he was having heart failure (he wasn't). They gave him lasix and oxygen and he turned out to be fine. My husband and I have lots more grey hair because of this experience however. (The hospital asked us if we "wanted" them to do an x-ray. It didn't turn up anything, just added another $100 to our bill. Total bill about $250). 'Nuff said about greenies. |
They are still causing obstructions, so I would not give them. The ingredients are garbage anyway. |
Actually, I went to TSC Friday, and they now have greenie bisquits, they have the little tiny pieces of greenies in them, so, am assuming they work just as well as the toothbrush shaped greenies..I bought a box of the bisquits, and they all love them..and, there's nothing in them for them to choke on.. |
I've never given Madeleine Greenies. I don't want to take any chances and there are plenty of other treats I can give that she likes. |

i called greenies and they told me that they are more digestible than dry kibble. i let my york enjoy one every now and then, but always with supervision. |
my girls love greenies My girls LOVE the greenies. I always supervise them. it is Kissy's crack!! She is so addicted to them that i have started giving her smaller and smaller pieces each morning. She will let me know if i forget to give her a little piece! The new formula is much softer and i can actually use a knife and cut the little toothbrushes into about 6 little pieces so they go farther. I'll have to check into those little pieces that can be purchased. As with any treat or chewy, you should always supervise when they are chewing on anything as a piece can come off. I have to watch those bully sticks and tendons when they get small too. Those little biscuits with greenie pieces in there are good too. |
I purchased them in the past, but no long do so. I was shocked at how fast my small Yorkies could devour them. Don't like them having the end of any chewie. Always take away the last inch. Considering that I have four to watch I don't trust myself to catch that last remaining inch and take it away. Therefore, no greenies.:thumbdown |
I don't trust them either...the fact they are soooo green freaks me out too because it scream colouring!!! |

We quit giving them to our pups when we heard about the problems with the original ones. I just can't bring myself to buy another greenie after that. |
I would rather give healthier treat for my girl. I used to love them.. long time ago when I used to dog sit my friend's yorkie.. but not any more |
I used to give Kimchee the lil bit (small pieces form) when he was younger but he vomitted after eating them, so I have never given him anymore since then, even the new formula. |
Wasn't there a member here that lost her Yorkie to a greenie? This would be a couple of years ago, before I joined, I just remember someone mentioning this sad story:( I'd hate to see anyone lose their baby because of a treat:( |
I dont use them either |
