Bath time :) hey there, thanks for all your help thus far, was just wondering how often you all bath ur pups? also, how much water do you put in? when chip goes in the bath, all he does is whimper and try and get out, not very easy to bath him :( hope ya can help us again :D thanks |
I bathe mine once a week. I bathe them in the sink and just run the sprayer over them |
I bath Pixie once a week and use plenty of pantene conditioner on her long (ish) coat, make grooming her alot easier! I also stand her in the bathroom sink and run the shower head over her, i used to do her in the bath but she used to run around like a maniac! she seems to prefer the sink, less scarier maybe? |
would be nice if we had a sprayer :( thats an american thing for sinks, we only have them in the shower. i tried the shower head on him the other day, didnt look very good hehe jks, but he just moaned when i turned it on, but im sure he will get used to it, we had our first bath in the bath and the second one in the sink, he didnt really like either and just started drinking the water, he might get a bit more used to it when he has had his second shot and can go and play with other dogs. also have read that using peoples shampoo on pups is bad for their skin, is this true or just urban myth, it says that it dries out their skin because it has a different PH level to doggy shampoo, even kids and baby shampoo is meant to be too much, any help on this one too? |
Layla is about every two weeks.... in the winter.. in the summer it has to be every week. She is bathed in the kitchen sick and i don't fill the sick i just run the water and the MOST important part is it takes my mom and i both to do it.. otherwise Layla climbs up my arm... keep in mind that dogs like luke warm water and maybe you can give her a special treat when she starts.. in the middle and when it is over.. |
the other day i bathed her in the tub beacuse the sick was full something or other... and i filled the tub up to her "knees" and then turned the water off and used a cup to get the water off her... i know she doesn't like the sound of the water and this really helped... then i drained the water and used fresh water for her last good wash off. you might try that too |

I use a mild aloe vera puppy shampoo and pantene because my breeder used it on her dogs and she shows at crufts so i thought i would carry on using it, pixie coat is lovely and shiny and no dry skin.:) |

Well if you don't have a sprayer try a large glass and put water in and pour it over your dog. I wash mine every 1-2 wks. You shouldn't do each week because of there skin and drying them out. |
You may think I'm crazy but, I bathe my yorkiechi in the shower with me on Saturday mornings. I've been doing it since she was a baby. I hold her on my shoulder to rinse her under the spray, so she won't get scared, also I'm careful to keep the water out of her ears. I dry her with the blow dryer afterwards. She likes it - she will jump in the shower if given the chance. My boxer likes to take showers with his skin brother.... Of course, you sometimes come out dirtier than when you went in!:D |

so funny to hear some of the ways you guys have tried to bathe your babies.....mine doesnt like a bath no matter what.....not in the tub or sink or even at the groomers....he hates the water and hates getting dried with the hairdryer even more....i wish i could make it less dramatic for him....when he has a bath his little heart just goes wild!......hope to hear more........i love this website!!!!!!!!:animal36 :animal-pa |
My adults get a bath every other week, and they are sprayed with conditioner/deodorizer every night and brushed...so they never smell unless they roll in the mud or something outside lol, and in that case they get a bath immediately! I do the kitchen sink with the sprayer too...:) |
We do the kitchen sink too with his blue plastic tub ( dish tub) and he gets better every time. he doesn't try to jump out or in my arms as much..I use the sprayer too!! then off to the dryer!! |
