Idea's to stop night time barking. I've had my new baby boy Ronnie for 3 days now and on the 1st night he was great but the last two have been a nightmare, i've hardly had any sleep because he constantly barks all night. I leave him in the kitchen with a night light beside his bed and a t-shirt smelling of me beside him. Hes got food, water and lots of toys but the minute i leave him to go to sleep he barks all night and i dont know what else to do. I want to start as i mean to go and not run to him every time he whimpers as i dont want him to get use to that but on the other hand i dont want him upset in the kitchen on his own. I leave the radio on quietly so he thinks people are around but he knows its not me. I had him on my bed yesterday afternoon whilst i was trying to catch up on some sleep and he was an angel, he even went to sleep with me but thats something else i dont want him use to, maybe once hes potty trained but not now as i have a new cream carpet in my bedroom! I love him to bits and dont want to have to sell him on because he barks too much but on the other hand i cant go on with no sleep every night and my neighbours will go mad if it continues. Will he get out of it, if i ignore him? Any other idea's are really welcome xx :animal36 |
WE went thru this with sassy when we first got her 2 months ago. what we started doing is putting her kennel in our bedroom at night, take her out to potty just before going to bed. she started whining for maybe 2 minutes then would settle down and go to sleep. the first month she would wake up about every 3 hours to go potty, now she only wakes up one time a night whining and if we do not answer she will bark. this has helped us get a goods night sleep.she is 4 months old today. |

Re: Barking I can buy a crate for him to sleep in my bedroom thats not a problem but i cant leave him at all at the moment without going nuts, so i feel if i let him in with me night times its gonna make the situation worst cause he will never get use to being left alone. I am a stay at home mum so i am home most of time anyway but there are days i need to go shopping etc and cant take him with me and i dont want to upset my neighbours with him barking all day or night. So do you think as he gets older and more settled in with us that his barking with stop? :animal36 |

I would ether let him sleep in your bed or in a crate by your bed where he can see you |
i'm not sure where you keep him at night but whether you choose to let him sleep next to you or not.. you should probably buy him a crate.. he's this tiny 2 lb pup in a huge room... it must be daunting... he needs a little place he can go can feel secure. but give the nighttime thing a try... |
You might try getting rid of the night light. I can't sleep unless it is totally dark. The light being over his bed might be confusing to him. I know my dogs bark more if any lights are left on in the house at night. |
