is it to late? I never put lola in a crate she was my first dog so i didnt wanna do that and its been a big mistake... im sure u all understand... well shes really good with going potty outside when we r home and let her out but shes not using pee pads and shes having alot of accidents she is 11 monthes almost is it to late to put her in a crate... I just hate seeing her in one :( |
Its never too late. She will have a harder time because she has already formed bad habits however you will get her traiined |
its never too late to crate train or use an ex-pen if you want something larger. She's going to complain a lot and it might take longer, or you may be surprised and she'll take to it right away. |
Maybe get a playpen instead and put it on a hardwood or linoleum surface. It can be hard to go from total freedom to being in a crate. just an idea to ease her into it Has she always had accidents in the house, or is this something behavioral or medical? Kind of strange if she has been fine all along and is just starting to do it now... |
were would i find a good deal on a play pen... i think i like that idea a lil better then the crate... she has had accidents all the time when we r not home.. sometimes using the pee pads then sometimes not.. is not something just started occuring but now it just seems like she doesnt even go by the pee pads we come home and she has gone in other places.. sometimes she will hold it then we let her out when we come home but lately she is just freely peeing everywhereeee |
I crate Sophie of a night because she is the worst bed fellow ever but when I leave I put her in one room and close the door. She uses the pee pad every time but if I let her have free run of the house she will have accidents. It is a small room and I think that helps. We leave the tv on and lots of toys and water. She does very well. She hates when we leave but is used to the routine. I used to use gates in front of the door but she could get out no matter what so we have to shut the door. I would try a bathroom or kitchen. Somewhere with hard floors. Good luck.:) |
It's probably not too late for her, but it might be for you. :D If you hate the thought of it then you are probably not going to be ble to go through with it. Have you thought about just leashing her to you, so she can't wander off? I believe they call it potty training boot camp. Just a thought. |
http://www.petco.com/product/5992/No...t-Yard-XT.aspx here is an idea for you. I would look around on the web at your options, and go to the store to get a feel for the size you want her to have. Good luck. |
You just have to be FIRM.. and not be tempted to let her out.. when she cries :) |
I've heard good things about using the ex-pens on tile or over a tarp or some such that would protect any other flooring. You could put the crate into the yard so she could warm up to the idea. Almost any largish pet store would have em but you can proboly get a better deal looking around a bit online for a 'super yard'. Good luck! |
