question re spaying My little rescue Chihuahua, Kozanna, will be 10 months old on the 14th. She weighs about 4 pounds. I think I should have her spayed very soon, but hesitate because she is so very afraid of everyone and everything. It will be a very traumatic experience for her. She responds to me and cuddles with me, but she really doesn't know me that well yet and I don't know if I could offer her much comfort. I have no way of knowing if she has ever had a season or not, but presume she has not. Can my vet tell if she has ever had a season? Hmmm, I'll ask her. I think maybe I should go ahead and get it done and get it over with, but would like to be able to comfort her more than I think I could now. Any thoughts? |
I would get her done before she goes in heat. It eliminates her chances of getting mammary cancer |
If you get her done right away, starting over again with her (trust, comfort, etc.) would be better than waiting and then having to start over, kwim? |
Spaying I was really afraid to have Tootsie spayed as well. Mainly because there is no one at our vets to attend them at night, and the antesetic (probably wrong spelling) is always a concern. She also was very timid, and was only used to being with us. Our vet assured us that she would be fine, that they keep them sedated most of the time, so we went ahead with it. She made it through, we picked her up the next morning, she was sooo glad to see us. I;m glad we had it done, and it is over with. (It has been a year) Now we have to have Teddy done, and I'm worried all over again. Don't worry, your little girl should be o.k , too. Janice |
My yorkie is a little over 5 months and around 4 lbs. her brother(my son has him) is not even 3 lbs. they're both going in Wed to be spayed/neutered...I'm not going to take a chance of her coming in to heat..I want her with me as long as I can have her..Please get your pet spayed By the way, I got a little biewer(boy), he had been flown from Germany to PA, and then a few weeks later from PA to SC, and I got him on a Sunday, and he was neutered the next day...He's 2 1/2 now and a cuddler and the best little guy |

My Jewels is a very timid dog and she had trouble the night of the spay. She shook all night but the next day was back to normal. I am sure she will do fine |
OK, I took a deep breath and scheduled Kozanna to be spayed on Jan. 22. My vet assures me that she will be fine and four pounds is a good weight. I've never had a little one like Kozanna spayed and I'm a basket case already! It's worse because she is so afraid of everything and she is going to be traumatized. She will stay overnight at my vet's because she will be kept sedated and on pain meds. I would normally bring one home the evening after a spay in the morning, but Kozanna is an exception. I wish I was able to comfort her, but that's still a way in the future. She likes me and lets me cuddle her, but is still very much afraid. She will be microchipped at the same time. After this, Kozanna won't have to see the vet again until she's due for vaccinations next year unless something unusual comes up. I just hate having to do this, but I think spaying is necessary and she is almost 10 months old. Can't put it off any longer. Oh, goodness, I'm a mess already! |
I just got Dakota spayed yesterday and im sure she was scared to death since shes always soo scared of everything. But im sure urs will do fine! |
Awww, it'll be okay Momma:love: She'll be so happy to see you after all that and who knows? You caring for her after her surgery may just boost that bond that's started between you:) |
