Silly question about coat CHloe is my first yorkie so I am learning everything about longhaired dogs with her. I have noticed that all her hair is getting fairly long but kinda scraggly looking. I'd say her coat along her back is 4-5 inches long and thin. But then she has all this "new growth" that is about 2-3 inches long and it fuller looking. Is the long hair just a puppy coat? Should I go ahead and have that trimmed down to the new growth when I take her to a groomer? I just dont understand why she has almost a whole new looking coat growing in. Is this normal? She is 7 month old. I will try to post a picture later of what I am talking about. |
I think she is just in that weird stage with getting her adult coat and also getting rid of the fuzzy puppy hair. Bunny is 6 months and she is doing the same thing. I am holding out on the groomer trimming her hair bc I don't want to mess up he coat since I want to keep her in a full coat. |

Thats what I was wondering. So they have a puppy coat and then they lose that and grow an adult coat? Are all puppy coats kinda cottony? Are the adult coats different? It looks like the new growth is thicker and fuller. It looks like it will be nicer. I just wasnt sure what was going on with her coat. |
Yes the puppy coat is more like fuzz than hair. Bunny will have a silk coat and that is coming in, but her old puppy coat is still there and its so fuzzy that it almost gets matted at the skin! I just keep biding my time and try to keep her brushed so that her adult coat comes through without tangles. |
