When Can I Introduce My New Puppy To Food? 2 Attachment(s) I have a 20 day old little Yorkie and I was wondering when I can introduce her to food? I was thinking of taking some of the puppy food and blending it up with some newborn puppy milk. She weighed 3.5 oz at birth and today weighs 13 1/8 oz. Last night during dinner time we put a piece of meat up to her(to see what she would do) and she tried to take a bite out of it! Of course we wouldn't let her have it, she doesn't have the teeth to chew it! But she wanted it! When would be an ok time to introduce her to puppy food? And what would you recommend starting her with? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is our first experience with a litter.:aimeeyork |
Hi there :) Dont know the answer to your questions... But thought I'd help "bump" your thread up... Hopefully someone will be able to assist you :) |
I'm confused..why is she so young, is the mother not feeding her anymore? |
puppy She is not even 3 weeks yet..continue to allow her to nurse from mom..at 5 to 6 weeks she can be weaned to goats milk soaked kibble and baby food meat.. |

Ok. I will continue to let her Mama supply all of her food! Lily is doing a great job with her new pup and every day Holly is gaining close to an ounce! :animal-pa |
Mom and baby are adorable. I like to introduce my babies to solid food between 4 and 5 weeks. I take dry puppy food (Canidae or Chicken Soup For The Pet Lovers Soul) and blend it in a blender until it is very fine (like corn meal). Just leave a small bowl of this dry food in the pen near the puppy and they will go over and start licking it in no time. Also leave a small bowl of water. |
