Yet another question Just like when you were raising your children, everyone has advice. Mika is in her crate while her Mom and I are at work. We put her bowl of water in there with her. A friend says we should NOT, that she will drink and it will make her want to go, yet she will hold it as she is in the crate, and it will make her uncomfortable. Better not to leave the water. What say you experts. And before you ask, this is like from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM. sometimes later depending on boss' demands. |

I'd never leave my kiddos kenneled in their crates for longer than a few hours at most..... that is a long time.. I say leave some water and food because the baby needs food & water like we do.. unless you can home...:D |
long time I think anything over 4-6 hours is way too long to crate a dog without water. It borders on cruelty IMO. I think the above poster's idea is excellent. |
Well crate training is training and holding water and food. What goes in comes out. I'm not sure what size your little one is so there might be a problem if she is really small. |

When I got my baby Maxi I bought him a playpan. When I would leave I would secure the play pan to his crate I would tie it up to make sure he wont be able to escape. I would leave the crate door open with his bed in it. The water and food was outside the crate in the playpan so that way he wont be hungry or thirsty. I would put some toys in there so he can play and the wee wee pad on the other side of the playpan. At the begining I had wee wee pad in the crate too but he was a smart little fella and would go on wee wee pad that is in the playpan only. I dont think you should leave your baby without water or food for such a long time. Yorkies tent to get dehydrated fast and water is essential to their well being especially if they are just little pups. It worked for me because I didnt want Maxi to be in the crate period so I made it more fun with a playpan. That way he learned that crate is his little den where he would sleep and he could come out and play in the playpan whenever he wanted to. That way his crate was never closed. |
