can a female yorkie and a male golden be friends?? Hi all.. Im so glad to find this forum ^_^... My bf just got me a yorkie pup as a xmas present.. and I love her soo much.. We already have a male golden.. and he's very aggresive towards her. He doesn't do anything to harm her.. and she doesn't seem to be afraid of him.. And we always supervise them.. We never leave them alone afraid he might step his big foot on her! Anyway, my concern is.. he seems a lil bit TOO excited on her and always wanting to lick her (esp the rear area).. :( thats why I always put her in crate whenever he's around.. Anyone have a yorkie and a big dog in the same house? Is there any accident happen? |
i have a yorkie and i bring him over to my moms house (she has 3 HUGE dogs, lol.... not just big).... they do fine together, they are very careful not to harm him in any way, any "mauling" that goes on is very gentle... goldens are wonderful dogs though, from the way it sounds the golden must still be young and not 'settled' yet, how old is the golden??? my golden died in september which is why i got a yorkie, there are many people on this board who have yorkies with big dogs, i cant remember who it was but someone had a big lab too  anyways, just give it time and supervision im sure it will work itself out, you might even want to get down on the floor with the golden and "teach" him to play gently with the yorkie, as far as licking goes... sorry but this is a golden trait :D im sure there will be plenty of kisses to go around because licking is supposed to be a yorkie trait too :D ..... Good luck and keep us posted on teh progress.... oh, one more thing..... arent bf's wonderful? (i got my yorkie for christmas too, and an engagement ring :D ........) |
It should be okay, but just make sure the don't play too rough with each other. A Golden Retriever stomping on a little Yorkie during playtime can be harmful, but if they seem to get along fine, without any dominant dog personalities, it should be peaceful at your household. Welcome to the site, we're happy to have you! |
I have a golden/yellow lab. She gets along great with our yorkies. Even the pups when we have them. Is the golden fixed if he isnt that may be why he is licking her there. If he is well maybe he will grow out of it. Also Yorkies are quick. When she gets older your yorkie will drive your golden nuts by running circles around him! LOL Cindy |
I have the 100+ lb lab and she and Mia get along GREAT! See their latest escapade in my recent post about Mia's new trick. I think the key is supervision and slow introductions. Make sure the 'new' dog isn't always favored over the 'old' |
Hi all.. thanks you for your advise... :) Yeah.. the golden is quite hyper.. and not "settled" yet. His name is Simba and he always get exicted with the female species.. Sometimes he barks so loud infront my yorkie's face, but she doesn't show the slightest fear .. :D . Oh btw, her name is Sacha.. and we brought her home on the new year's eve so this is the 3rd day she's been with us. She's so tiny that sometimes Im afraid I might step on her :o but she's sooo full of energy :p ! She keeps me amuse at all times. |
i accidently stepped on toby because he was running circles around me when i was trying to walk....... i felt so bad, he limped for about ten minuits after and then the little drama king forgot that he was pretending to be hurt  i didnt feel so bad after that :p |
