Discussion question, putting your baby in a dogie purse (Good or bad) I was just wondering what all of you thought about putting you pup in a doggie purse, and are there in pros or cons to this. Do you do it? Do your babies like or dislike it? :thumbdown |
All of my Yorkies and my non-yorkies love being in a purse or bag. If I ave one open on the floor the will all try to get in it at once. It is so cute to see 7 dogs try to squeeze into a bag that should fit two. Mine were all trained from the time they were little that a bag or purse is a good thing. I have seen dogs that hate the confinement though si it really depends on the dog and the training. |
I like my dogs to walk as much as possible because they need the exercise, but there are definitely occasions when carrying them is not only OK but essential. Like walking in a crowd. Or at the dog park when big dogs get too friendly. Or even walking into someone else's house, and you don't know what dangers lurk on the ground. I have a backpack that they can fit in. I also had a fleece bag made to rescue Jack on walks in the snow. But I'd resist carrying them everywhere as a fashion accessory ala Paris Hilton. |
Layla only goes in a purse if we are bringing her in somewhere she can't go.. lol... ie. Walmart or Target or something. When we go away we dont' leave her in the hotel or the car so she does where we go... otherwise she walks :) and Layla LOVES her purse... she knows she gets a treat when she goes in and when she comes out! |
I never put mine in a carrier they dont like it. They like to walk |
Coby loves going in his bag. If I put it on the floor, he is in it in a flash tapping his foot being impatient to GO SOMEWHERE!! (My only problem is that he's outgrown my first bag and isn't keen on any of the bigger ones I've tried. He just keeps squeezing into the little one.) I find that people are a little less "handsy" if pups are in a bag. If you are carrying them, they are more likely to want to hold them. If they're in a bag, they are content with petting them. Depends on the dog or the place of course, but I think they feel secure in their little protable kennel/den. :) |
My dogs only go in the bags if we are taking them somewhere like the vet. I don't like them exposed to other dogs that maybe sick. And of course stores like Ross or marshalls allow dogs in a bag but not on a leash. Even Walmart lets a dog in a bag in where I live. Most of the time they walk but bags are handy for some things and it is nice to have them like it. |
The purse is a good ideal when you take them to places they wouldn't let in a dog. If the purse looks fairly normal no one really even notices that you have a dog. That is if your dog is trained not to bark and enjoys going places with you. But when we got where the dogs can walk they are on a leash. You just can't take dogs everywhere and this is like a bed when they get tired. My dogs have always been use to them. I started them out that way so they could be with me. |

Thank you all for your opinions, I was wondering because lily loves her bag and we used it a lot when she was little because I did not want people touching and grabbing her. she is now a little older and i did not know if it would still be ok on certain occasions. |
gino doesnt like his, but hes only been going in it here and there for 2 months. Hes almost 10 months old and I have only had him for 2.5 mos. I sure hope he will get used to it. Its very roomy. He needs to have a enclosed one because he fights to get out of ones he can pop his head out of! In that case I have 2 new ones to sell that arent enclosed. LOL |
I would say walking is the best but if I go some place where I had to worry about her welfare then it would be in the bag. I know that people might think it's paris hiltonish especially with her being all dressed up...but hey. It floats my boat and that is what matters at the end of the day :p |
I take Lacy a lot of places with me, and when you go in a store you have to carry your dog (don't want it to potty on the floor). Normally I'll just carry her in my arms, but occasionally I'll use a carrier (especially if I have to sneak her in somewhere). I really prefer my stroller though if we're going to the mall or to a long event. |
I don't really get dog bags. I'm sure most dogs would prefer to walk- as mine do. And if you (generally-speaking) need to conceal your dog- then, well- you shouldn't be taking them there in the first place. :) |
