Ok, Since I Have Been Getting Grief On Yt About A Pet Shop Dog, I Went And Googled Puppy Mill. Omg I Had No Idea. Wish I Knew Then, But It Is Too Late, Cody Is Mine And There Is Absolutely No Way My Baby Is Going Back!!!

The problem is You are not alone..."When you know better...You do better" Now you know better :)

It is shocking to find out the truth, isn't it?

Of course Cody is not going back, He's your baby now. Just tell everyone you know about the connection between pet shops and puppy mills. That's the only way we can get those places shut down for good.

Of course we know you love your baby...and I wouldn't think in a million years that anyone here would WANT you to send him back to such an awful place. :( He is safe in your arms now and that is all that matters - and thank goodness you saved him! You didn't know about pet stores and puppy mills, it wasn't your fault. Alot of people STILL don't know about them. I myself never even knew about them until I joined YT almost 2 years ago. You live and learn :) The most important thing is....you and your baby are happy. There is no sense in looking back! ;) :thumbup:

Just say a prayer your baby is healthy and learn from here on.
I thank the good Lord everyday I saved Buddy and he's healthy.

Congrats on getting your puppy and welcome to YT! :)

I hope no one has made you feel bad. There are a lot of people on YT who got their babies from a pet shop or otherwise less-than-healthy place innocently enough. Even those who think they had a good breeder continue to learn even more questions to ask before doing it again. My Coby is wonderful and healthy, but I have learned a few MORE questions to ask the next time.

Cody is lucky to belong to someone that loves him unconditionally and who is still open to learning and sharing information to save future puppies like Cody and their mommies and daddies.

Cody is lucky to have you. Glad you have joined YT and can find out all the ways to take great care of him now!!:)

PS. I forgot to say, you may not have a breeder to ask questions to etc. but hey, you have a lot of knowledgeable people here on YT who are more than happy to help you, give you advice, etc.!

No one was "giving her problems" :rolleyes: She was just getting comments advising against buying pet shops from dogs. Nothing harsh or critical or mean.:)

To the OP. How can you say 'you didn't know?' ;) You mean you weren't born knowing everything? :eek: I'm shocked!:p LOL...don't be hard on yourself...if you didn't know you didn't know. Now you know better and everytime you look at your little one you can do it knowing that now he FINALLY is somewhere that he will be loved!

Although, your original post said he wasn't coming home until Jan 11th, so unless you got him early or already paid for him, it is NOT "too late now."

I was watching Treehouse with my daughter the other day...there are these 3 little monsters called Wee 3 and they were singing a song that went something like this:

"The petshop puppy is the one for you"

I couldnt believe what I was hearing! I know that most of us grew up singing How much is that doggy in the window, but it really suprised me that someone out there made up a new song, with an even worse message for our young little sponges.

oh no we picked Cody up yesterday, the kids wanted him home and so did I. He is sooooo adorable!!

Chewy came from a pet shop too... I also didn't know!!!! But he is healthy and very cute and sweet and he is our little boy! I try not to think of where he came from since I can't do anything about it. but he has been a great baby and I look at it like I resqued him!

No one will blame you for not knowing. But I agree with other poster's.......now that you know, spread your knowledge and do whatever you can to put these puppy mills out of business.

Not buying dogs in pet stores is only one way to fight puppy mills and there are many more ways to do that. Please don't beat yourself up over this and don't let the critisism make you miserable!

I guess we all live and learn, I am older and always still learning, it never stops.. till we drop..

Glad your baby is healthy, and I do not think anyone will say anything, when you do something not knowing like this.. as for the new pet store song, that should be banned.. In my day also how much is that doggy in the window was such a cute song especially sang by Doris Day, but today..:rolleyes: it just does not seem right..

I have four very small doggies and it raises eyebrows in my small community. It brings up questions and I use that as an opportunity to tell about my doggies' backgrounds and how I didn't realize what a risk I was taking. YT has been such a wealth of information for me. Thank you to all the posters!:)

My husband had been talking about getting a puppy for 2 months and decided to move to make it happen. He works long hours and I'm home a lot by myself so a little companion seemed like the perfect solution. I also didn't know about the risk of pet shop puppies and all the horrible puppy mills out there when I got my Lexie. We had to make an emergency vet visit on Christmas because she had 3 different types of parasites! I had taken her to the vet where I live just the day before and he said she was totally healthy! GRRR! Well the emergency vet was awesome and even let us see her parasites under a microscope on this little tv. He really knew his stuff! He gave her three shots and she was better within an hour or two. If I'd known I would have never contributed to puppy mills but I know my life would not be right without Lexie. I would have paid anything on Christmas to keep her alive and make her feel better.

Now I know that however much I love Lexie is how much I have to tell everyone out there not to pay these horrible people for their cruelty to animals! Oh and I want to thank YT for being such a great home for so many yorkie owners. I've learned so much from this site. It really is priceless.

What happens to the puppies and other sweeties at these pet shops if no one adopts them? I don't like to know they are from mills but I can't help thinking about what happens if people like the OP didn't adopt them.
