being left alone You think when they are so young its bad to leave them alone? I have to work, but feel so sad she is alone. She is in her xpen and has potty pad, toys, and her food and water. She will get use to it, right?..... |
I think leaving them is harder on us than them:D Sounds like you have the perfect setup for her and I'm sure she'll be fine and probably do what mine do, which is sleep the whole time - LOL! |
How many hours at a time? I don't think it's healthy for a Yorkie puppy to be left alone for more than maybe four hours but there are people here who do that and it works well for them. My major concern is you can't make sure your Yorkie is eating when you are gone. |
She is eating. What I leave her in the bowl is gone when I get home. I know they have to eat often during the day to keep their sugar right, which worrys me too, but as long as that bowl gets empty, I will try not to worry. |

As long as she has her food you really are ok leaving her. You could always get her a playmate to keep her company ;) |
I'm not an expert on yorkies, as I just got a yorkie chihuahua mix myself. I do however know that we have three other dogs, one is a rescue and when we got her, she was already full grown, but the other two were 6 weeks old and 10 weeks old when we got them. My husband works outside the home, our kids were all in school and I myself was busy throughout the day running errands and what not. Isaiah and Elijah had to learn that this was a normal part of life, even at a young age. They adjusted and have become very loving and well adjusted furkids. Things come up and their may be times when no one can be with them, it's better to teach them this now instead of waiting till they are older and then they end up with separation anxiety. This of course is just my opinion. As for leaving puppy pads, toys, food and water in there with your lil one. I'll let someone else who is more familiar with yorkies answer that, like I said, this is my first time having a yorkie so I don't really know how destructive they can be. Our boxer would rip all kinds of stuff apart if we left it in their kennels with them, but they are a much larger breed dog and even as pups could chew stuffed animals up lickity split and choke on them, so, we never left toys in the kennels with them when no one was there to supervise. As for the puppy pads, I don't know, I'm finding that Lil Miss Maggy May is starting to chew on hers even though she has toys in her crate with her. I'm keeping a close eye on that to make sure she doesn't rip it apart and choke on it. If need be I'll take the puppy pads out of her crate and just put it outside of her crate and put her on it to potty frequently. Hope you get some answers here from others that you're looking for. Best of luck to you. |
I leave Carlos at home for about 7 hours a day and he is usually in his crate. As of lately he has been escaping and roaming around the house and doing really well. He goes to the bathroom on his pads and is not destroying the house. So I am contemplating not putting him in his crate anymore. |

I got Cooper about 3 weeks ago. I am a teacher and because it was Winter Break, I was able to stay home with him for the first two weeks. Monday was the first day that I left him, for about 7 hours. I bought a baby gate and block off my laundry room. There is absolutely nothing he can get into in this room (believe me, I have a very NAUGHTY Jack Russell and even he can't find any trouble to get in to). I have his crate, food, water and some toys. When I get home he completely loses his mind, but seems to be adjusting well to this change. I am sure your little girl will be fine. Like an earlier poster said, I think it is harder on us than them! Oh, the guilt!;) |
