Keeping Yorkie safe Can someone give me advice on how to keep these little sweethearts from being stepped on and getting in things they can really get hurt or stuck? |
My suggestion(and I love mine) is an xpen! |

Well Teddi always wears a bell so I know where she is. In the beginning it takes a little to get used to so you don't step on them but then everyone learns how it works. It was a little hard for my standard poodle in the beginning because Teddi kept getting under her feet but they both figured it out and now everyone is fine. During the day Teddi stays in the kitchen with a gate (otherwise I think she would drive Cassie crazy trying to play with her all day). |

I use a porta-crib and I have baby gates all over the house. Where there are no gates, the doors are closed. Tessa is only allowed in a few places that I know are safe. I also do the "Yorkie shuffle".:) |
Lol, I like the yorkie shuffle, I read about it somewhere on here earlier today and when my hubby was trying to walk through the kitchen, Luke, our daughters new puppy kept getting under his feet and I said, slide your feet don't pick them up, that way you can't step on him. Lol, it was funny but he did it, YAY!! Now it's got a cute name, "Yorkie Shuffle" ya, I like that, has a sorta cute zing to it, hehehe. Oh and in reply to your question. I don't let Maggy May out anywhere right now unless I can watch her 100% I was actually thinkin about getting a play pen to keep her in when I can't watch her 100% of the time, but I think as she gets older she might be able to climb up the netting of that. Is an xpen the same as a playpen? |

Welcome to YT!!! |
I have learned that I need to exit doors more carefully. I try to get out rapidly, but my little shadow is right behind. If I try to slam the door shut behind me to keep him in, I'm going to catch his head or a paw. So, I have to watch doors more carefully, too. Yorkie Shuffle: Check! Bell (on a ferret collar because even kitty collars are too big): Check! X-pen: Check! Watch the door!!!!!: Check! I didn't realize how fast I could fall in love, or how protective I would become. |
I put a little bell on Daisy's collar so I can hear her coming and going! |
Yeah I have one of those pens. It is a great thing to keep them in when you have to work. I have done the shuffle too. I guess just keeping a close eye on them is a way to keep them safe. Thanks for the advice. I am glad to read these things, it makes me feel good to know I am on the right track.:) Quote:
