8 month old yorkie and a mom with no sleep Hello everyone, I need a little help, lily, my baby is 8 months old and had her baby teeth extracted (5) and was spayed 5 days ago and since then I have not slept much not that I am used to a lot of sleep. When I got her she had some health problems and kept me up for the first few months but I was finally into a routine, and now that she is in a little bit of distress with the procedure and all she is not sleeping at night. She usually starts out in bed with my husband and I and when I am ready to go to sleep I put her in her bed next to ours, but now when I put her in her own bed she gets up and wines and wines so I get up with her because I dont want her to wake my husband and I fell bad for her but now after 5 days of no sleep* I am desperate. I am a nanny of two children 5 and 6 so I need all my energy. Lily is getting all the exercise and play she can but it is not a fraction of what she is used to do to the restrictions of the spay. Do any of you have any bed time suggestions. Or am i just stupid and need to let he wine. |
Perhaps she is sleeping too much during the daytime now and could that be why she doesn't want to sleep at night? Or is she still uncomfortable from the tooth extractions and spay? Or could she need a snack? Perhaps hungry? |
I just had my little male in for surgery last Thursday.... four teeth removed, an exploratory surgery to *find* his undescended testicles, and an umbilical hernia fix... sigh.... My poor little man was so uncomfortable and was not sleeping well AT ALL until last night. My theory was that it was due to the fact I had to keep him in his crate most all of the day, as he is VERY active and LOVES to play, and of course, isn't allowed. He spent all day sleeping, and wasn't tired at night. Can you try to crate her at night? I have a little tiny crate that I put on my bed right next to my pillow, and it works really well. If he cries, I just put my hand up right next to it and he quiets right down. You will get through it! I can completely relate to what you have been going through, surgery is SO stressful to mommies! Also, I am so glad that everything went well with her appointment, I was scared to death the whole day. Good luck, Amanda |
She is sleeping a fair amount during the day because the vet does not want her to be active for another 2 days for a total of 7 days with little to no activity. I thought hunger as well, but she does not seem to be interested, she just wants to be held and to have her belly rubbed. |
I think getting spayed thows them off a little, Mika came almost completely un trained (not that I ever have her fully there anyway). |

Seven days of quiet is much better than fourteen! Be thankful.... and good luck! |
