I have a ? Does anyone's yorkie pee when they get excited? Or do you know if they out grow it. Everytime someone comes to the house or if were out she pees everytime she gets excited. I always have to tell everyone before they pick her up. Thank you |
I think when they are puppies their bladders are very small and they can't hold it back when they get excited. They usually grow out of it but I have seen adult dogs do it too. Hopefully, your little one will grow out of it and it won't be a problem, if it continues to be a problem you may want to ask the vet if there could be something wrong. |
Carlos is 16 weeks and he will go over to the pee pad and start peeing and if he knows you are watching and he thinks he will get a treat he will hurry up and leave a piddle trail. Makes me mad because it defies the purpose of going on the pad. |
Usually puppies around 6-8 mos tend to do this..the best thing to do is kind of ignore them when you come in until they settle down..It usually stops(or mine always did).. |
Lucy will be 3 in may and she does this sometimes. It happens when women greet her in a very high pitched voice or if she sees someone she really likes outside before she goes potty. It's not a huge issue for us. I just remind everyone not to get too excited over her and to let her check them out a little before they lean down to pet her or pick her up. Also, if I know someone is coming that will get her worked up I take her out just before they get there. |

Mine does every now and then when she gets excited. My vet said it's a puppy thing and she will outgrow it. |
Baxter will pee when excited - He will be 1 soon. I hope it ends - but doubtful - I had an Akita that peed when excited until the day she died. |
Chloe is getting better on this. She is one year old and 5 months old now. She used to pee when she got excited. I think she is slow outgrow it. |

May or May Not Out-Grow It Johnny's vet calls it "happy pee." At his first visit, I mentioned "excitement urination," wanting to use the right term and Dr. H immediately said, "happy pee." He also said many will outgrow it and that some males stop after being fixed, but it could be a life-long habit. Johnny has outgrown it with several people so I have confidence it will get to be everyone some time. He's just so happy to see people that it happens and this is a dog who is alone no more than 3 hours a day-some days, never alone. :aimeeyork |
Harley used to pee everytime someone walked in the door and she didn't seem to outgrow it as she got older. We had to start making sure that when people were coming over they knew to say hi and then ignore her until she settled down(extremely hard b/c at first she thought no one was happy to see her). It worked though and now when we come home we can be really happy to see her and she doesn't pee anymore. I think alot of it has to do with the fact their bladder control is still developing....getting mad or disciplining NEVER worked for us!!! |
Boo-Boo, my yorkie before Cujo (well, we got Cujo about a year before he died) did this his whole life, until we had to have him put to sleep in April. He was almost 16. The vet assured us that he couldn't help it, so we never punished him for it. He also said a lot of puppies do it, and most outgrow it, but Boo-Boo never did. If we knew someone was coming over, and he was going to get excited, I would take him out to the bathroom right before they came over. I would also him outside to greet people, and if they were going to pick him up, I would have them pet him first, so it would go ahead and come out. This seemed to work, and kept him from peeing on anyone. Cujo never had this problem, and the yorkie we had before Boo-Boo, Zach, never did either. But, Boo-Boo was just about the perfect dog otherwise, and never ever had any accidents in the house. |
