Irritated Does anyone get the feeling people judge you for holding your small dog? Like it's supposed to be a fashion statement when you go out with your dog? I took Guinnie out yesterday and I had just taken a shower, my hair was wet, I had on my jeans, tshirt and tennis shoes. I just grabbed him, his Pooh blanket and we took off. It sorta irritates me that these dogs are considered part of a fashion statement, do any of you get those weird vibes in public? |
I didn't intend for my post to sound so cold, using 'dog' instead of puppy or lil man. I'm just irritated by some of the people I ran into yesterday. I saw a couple with their small daughters and they let the older one hold their little puppy. I don't ever let my sons pick up Guinnie! I saw a woman with her toddler little girl at my clinic with a chihuahua in a little purse, it was chilly out, no blanket no sweater, and the little girl dropped the purse on the floor wiht hte doggie inside and ran off. I wanted to grab the bag and take off but someone else picked it up and handed it back to the mom of the little girl. It was so sad :( |
When we go out with carlos I always put him in a sweater and take his blanket. He is my child and I will hold him and dress him as he was a baby. My sister inlaw criticized me when I got him she said I just wanted a dog to put in my purse. |

I have to say though that anytime I see something that in my head doesn't seem practical, it makes no sense to me and makes me shake my head in wonder sometimes. Carrying your dog with you everywhere to me fits into this category...along with things like wearing heels to theme parks, or Sunday dresses to football games.... |
I guess I'm at that age where I don't care what people think. Family, friends and everyone at my vet clinic know how much I love my babies. And yes I have gotten stares on more than one occasion but doesn't bother me at all. I would take them everywhere if I could.:animal-pa |

i am at the point where i dont really care what they think..i am a good mommy to my girls and i give them the best so i know i don't treat them like the accessories and people that know me know that. Like Cindy said i just said have a great day because I know i am cuz i am loved by my babies! |

:yelrotflm Yep, my image of you is pretty accurate!:D I don't care either what people say. I'm not going to let poopy people ruin my days just cause they live differently. I'm not running for a popularity contest anyway.... |

I'm not letting it ruin my day, it was just irritating, that's all. I need to come up with some looks of my own to throw ;) LOL When he gets his stash of bows and shirts, I'm gonna need them ;) |
At my age and the way I dress I doubt that anyone believes I am trying to make a fashion statement. Most people break out in a big smile and when I catch their eyes I just laugh and say, "I assume that big grin is directed at my little girl, not me." I have never been one that likes attention and I know that isn't why I have this little dog. She is my dear friend, my baby, and I LOVE her in my life. The more the better. If her being with me bothers anyone, too bad...their loss. |
If they don't want to hold their dog that is their perrogative. I don't care what people think and if they were stupid enough to comment they would be sorry. I hate busy bodies don't you? I buy Jambo plenty of toys, best beds, cutest clothes etc. I bought him the most luxurious cashmere sweater a month ago and I just got a lot of envious looks. Of course no one knows how much I paid for it but I am proud that my baby looks as pampered as he is. I don't get him all the stuff I do because I consider him an accessory. I love my baby and want him to have the best. |

Ignorant People!! I was at the mall with "My Girls" and of course they were dressed up, I on the other hand had on sweats.:o I was carrying Bailey (4 lb), loosely wrapped in her pink blanket cuz she likes it. Maggie was walking next to me with her sweater on. I hear this man say, "What does she think they are, her kids!" I turned to him and his friend and said "They Are, and if you don't like it you can kiss my A_ _." Their jaws dropped, cuz I look like a sweet ole gramma, which I normally am! :D I guess I just had enough of the stares and whispers that day:rolleyes: Am I Bad:confused: Kathy & :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I personally don't care what other people think. When raising three daughters I got comments about how they were dressed too.( I loved to dress then all alike) It is not an age thing as in my twenties and now in my fifties I say the same thing " Is it a slow day for you and are you looking for people to be rude too? That gets them every time. I have had people say " You have too many dogs" or "poor things don't they hate getting dressed?" I have as many as I want and can afford and they are my kids not a fashion statement. My dogs also love to get dressed to go Bye Bye. I think people can just be plain rude when it comes to dogs and kids sometimes. |
I get it all the time about my boys so eventually I'll get used to it with my fuzzy boy. I agree, people are very rude at times. I have an autistic nephew and my sister gets rude comments all the time about him, I just can't believe what people will say! Anyways thanks for letting me vent today :) |

Ditto to these comments! |
I had a women roll her eyes at me at the drive thru this morning because my little one was dressed up. But he was cold! I was wearing a coat, so was my daughter and so was he. The woman asked me if I thought my workplace would allow him to come with me bacause he was dressed up. I said "I work at home." and she rolled her eyes at me. I don't know why. I'm not trying to be trendy with my little "fashion dog", I just really love this breed and he does get cold! Honestly though, I really don't care what people think. I'm going to continue dressing him up and taking him places with me. Besides, none of it is for them, it's for me and he makes me happy and that's all that matters. |

My family is always on my back "oh, dont u think its a waste of money" or "dont u think u shud focus on having kids instead of those dogs?" or "you have gone nuts since you got those dogs" etc etc etc You know what, I may have gone nuts since i got my furbabies, but its because I love them! And I dont care a hoot what ppl think! I have never been into pets or dogs..i never had a pet as a child, and then a little while after i got married I saw the most beautiful thing in the world... a yorkie! I did almost two years of research and thinking it through and my entire world changed the day I brought Jaya home! I don't care, and i am fed up with the comments! I feel like shouting that out to everyone who just doesnt understand! YES I wipe my dog's butt! YES i cook them better meals than I eat myself, YES they get their laundry done before i do my husbands! YES they get first dibs when i go shopping! and Damn well YES! I clean the house for them because I want them to be able to play in a safe and clean home! They are my babies, just as if they were children. I am raising them from babies. They are dependent on me for their well being, and they love me just as a child loves their parents (realistically, a child has selfish love, and a yorkie is completely giving! U will never be greated by anyone like u are by your furbaby!) ......................err...just had to get that off my chest since we're all sharing our frustrations haha... thank you everyone for being here and understanding and sharing what i feel for my pups!!!!! |
and just to add!!! You should have heard the comments from my family and friends (none of them have yorkies) when my husband and I brought home Jenna. grrr...... SO frustrating! That is why I did not bother telling anyone I was considering getting another yorkie.... just brought her home, and it was a surprise for anyone who happened to drop by. |
no and i dont care if anyone does judge me they dont pay my bills i dont care what they think! |

I have felt that people look at me different and to be honest I used to look at people like me the same way. I am a new yorkie owner and before I got her (lily) I would see those people with their little dogs and think what is the point. WOW was I wrong I got my girl kind of unexpectedly and now she is the love of my life and I realize that most of those cloths we put on them have a purpose and are not to make a statement and that they are great companion not just an accessory. I feel bad at the way I would look at people before I understood the little dog world. I had a guy the other day yell at me and my lily when we left the pet store because she had a coat on he said i was being cruel and made me feel horrible, but if I took her coat off she would have shook to death it was like 20 outside. |
Those are exactly the type of comments that irritate me. If we lived in a Northern State, my baby would have TONS of coats and stuff! (((hugs))) |
I 'm with you, I don't care a figs worth what people say; but I really think I get more good comments than bad. My husband has a classic remark he uses when people stare at Sawyer and say things like "Isn't He the cutest thing?' My husband always says, Thank you, and isn't my yorkie cute too?;) |
