Your babies are beautiful!!! I think the vet should have tested for worms and I wouldn't give the meds unless she really has worms....drop a stool sample off and ask them to test!

Did he think Heart Worms or Intestinal Worms? Did he test for either? I think I'd find a different vet. I have a skinny-ish Yorkie. He gets a high quality food and even leaves some behind, but he is just so high energy. Some are just that way.

She is adorable!!

Do you give your dogs heartworm medication now? I didn't know the listening to the heart would detect other than heartworms...:confused:

what? how do they say worms with no stool sample and test?

I would have questioned that right away.

They both look adorable and I have the same comment as everyone else. How can he tell if she has heartworms based on just listening to her heart? He didn't even do a test and prescribed medicine based on assumption? That just does not sound right. If you're concerned, I would definitely ask for a test and with a different vet.

I just wanted to clear up that he didnt think she had heartworms..just regular old worms lol..I am going there tomorrow to have my himmy's yearly shots done so I am taking in a stool sample..Ill let you all know what the results are..

i think she looks fine and pretty as ever! Jasmine just turned 2 on January 1st and probobly until she was about 1.5 years she was very thin and now she weighs 7lbs even, for a while she wouldn't get above 4 and that made me nervous!:)

Why didn't he check to see if she had worms instead of just giving you meds.If you left there guessing what is wrong, I would change vets.

Wow! I can't believe he gave you pills without testing for worms first! I'm betting she doesn't have worms at all!

I am quite sure she doesnt either and I really do like him as a vet..I dont want to change. I am going to talk with him again tomorrow now that I have what I want to say clearly in my mind. I imagine he thinks he has done it as a precaution but I will take a stool sample with me to be sure instead of giving her meds that she may not even need.

As much as I agree that this just seems "strange" of your vet to deworm without tests, some people deworm their dogs all the time. Once is no big deal and the problem with stool samples is they don't always show positive when they should. So, maybe he would want to treat anyway just in case even if the sample came back negative and he is saving you money by not testing?


When I thought Ellie had a liver problem and her bile acids came back high Ellie's vet consulted an internist. With high bile acids sometimes internists recommend deworming a dog just in case that is what is elevating the numbers. Ellie didn't have a fecal test at all because we may have gotten a false negative...
