evil doxie... my sister in law just left my house and im exhausted... they have a 3 month old daschund puppy... and oh my gosh... she drives me absolutely crazy.... i posted on here a while back that my brother and his wifes daschund was eaten by a coyote... well they were looking for another one but decided not to because shelby (SIL) was pregnant... well about a month ago... they got one anyway. she is now 12 weeks old... and my SIL is 8 1/2 months pregnant... anyway... this dog is a lil terror... pebbles usually LOVES to play... and shell play with maddie(daschund) for a lil while when she first gets there... but after about a half hour or so she just cant take it anymore... maddie is so mean when she plays... she growls and pins pebbles to the ground and bites her neck. pebbles is very submissive, so she jsut lays on her back and takes it.... but the poor thing just hates it after a while. she kept trying to go to her bed and go to sleep... but maddie would just run straight up to her and bite her in the face... so pebbles started getting really pissed off and snapping at her every time she got close. i felt so bad... normally.... i know what to do with a dog like this(i work part time as a dog trainer) but her mom babys her so much that i was afraid she would freak out at any little thing i did. i tried what i could... but you even hold this dog for more than two second and she would scream at the top of her lungs cause she wanted to charge pebbles. she even bit me when i grabbed her off of pebbles. :-/ o! and she pees on all of pebbles blankets. im spose to watch her when theyre in the hospital having the baby.... by the time she leaves me house.. im determined to make her behave... sorry for such a long post... i just had to let it out... luckily... theyre gone for the night... and pebbles is sleeping nicely next to me. |
aw, poor pebbles. Hopefully you can get her trained while she's staying with you and mommy isn't watching and babying her. |

the scary part... shes only 12 weeks old...and shes already showing signs of aggression... whats she gonna be like when shes older? :( |
Best of luck to you! I hope you can get her trained, and then you brother keeps up on the training! |
Yikes!! Hopefully you can nip it in the bud when she comes for her visit while your SIL is in the hospital...she needs a good time out!! lol Dawn |
She sounds exactly like my new puppy and how she treats Sweet Kalina. I think it's just her age that's making her act like that and she'll improve with training (which she needs) and time. |
If you're the designate puppy-sitter, I'd use and ex-pen for the little Doxie. Maybe you wouldn't even have to buy, perhaps even borrow one. The Daschund isn't in her own home, so she should adjust pretty quickly to being confined to her 'space'. I'd hate to see her behavior change the way your little Yorkie feels about other dogs...and I have seen that happen. Joy |
I bet after the baby arrives, they will be re-homing the doxie if her behavior hasn't been modified by then. |
That dog sounds like a terror. Quite frankly your sil better start working on those behaviour issues. Sounds like she wants to be top dog. That kind of aggression tends to extend on to people as well. So she better be careful and watch it when the baby comes. I know it's small dog but small dogs can do some damage too. I don't know if I could watch that dog. It's hard because it's just like when you have a good friend and her kids are monsters. Very touchy situation to be in. Good luck. Hopefully you can get the dog to behave some by the time your abby sitting job is done. |

i definately agree... i do already have an expen from when my beagle was a puppy... so thats coming back out. i dont want pebbles to start being afraid of other dogs or even agressive.. so i really hope this stops. |

she definately wants to be top dog.. at least with pebbles and people. she humps pebbles whenever she wont lay down and roll over for her... which is a sign of dominance. however... i let me akita in the house (102 pounds.... but one of the calmest sweetest dogs youll ever meeet) and maddie instantly stopped doing what she was doing and rolled over for her..... so she knows she can pick on pebbles cause theyre the same size.. and she thinks she can control me cause she does it with her parents... im worried about the baby too... i guess she already tries jumping in the basinet... and barks at the baby swing... and theres no baby in them yet! this was just a bad time to get a puppy... theyre going to be way too busy with that baby and neglect of a puppy only makes probles worse. |
