Wait! They LOSE their baby teeth? I am so naive. I had no idea that Joey will eventually lose his baby teeth and get adult ones...I just read it on YT. Why didn't I know this? Is there anything I need to watch for, or do they come out naturally like humans? |

They SHOULD lose their baby teeth - and they should fall out on their own ...BUT....many retain them and you need to have those pulled...some have double teeth - you'll see it if it happens - just play lots of Tug of war and see if you can keep their mouth busy chewing while their adult teeth come in... |

They just start coming out naturally about 5 or 6 months old. You may find some but usually they just swallow them. Sometimes they don't all come out then you have the vet remove them when they do the neuter/spay. |

how does the vet know if which of their teeth are baby teeth and which ones are adult teeth? what if they pull out adult teeth? Wookie has lost all of his baby teeth in front in like a week, and they have grown back soooo quickly. but i cant tell if the back ones came out or not? |

The vet should know which teeth are which. I have heard on here though where a vet pulled the permanent teeth out instead of the baby teeth. I am waiting as long as possible so the baby teeth can come out on their own hopefully. |

Just don't freak out if you are playing tug of war and blood is on the rag, like I did. |

When the adult teeth start coming in you will be able to tell the difference. Baby teeth are REALLY sharp. Esme was a late bloomer. She didn't start loosing her teeth until after 6 months. I was worried it would never happen! Now she is 8 months and she still has one baby tooth left. I was actually able to save 3 baby teeth! |

Your vet can X-ray the mouth for presence of permanent teeth under the baby (decisious) teeth. The canines look different. I have had 2 dogs that looked like sharks..full rows of teeth upper and lower.. I was terrible I wanted to keep them like that..LOL |

They will start loosing the baby teeth around 6 months. Sometimes some just dont fall on their own, even playing tug of war. At least it hasnt work for Gucci. Gucci need some teeth pull. |

And get those baby teeth that are left over pulled out - she will have too many troubles with unclean teeth if you don't. Normally this is done when they are close to 1 year old. Be SURE to find a vet who is experienced in this since it is highly dangerous to use anastethic (sp?) on small dogs. Rather pay more and have a live dog right?! :) |
