New to this site Hello everybody, My name is Tracy and my baby girl's name is Luna. She was born in June and we bought her in August. Still learning things about her breed, I've wanted a yorkie since my first babysitting job when I was 9. the people I babysat for had a yorkie named chewy, she was very loving, cute and fun. Did I mention she use to lick the water out of our ears???LOL Anyways, I guess it is about time for her first heat, not too sure what to expect. My 12 yr old son wants to get a boy yorkie for her and can't wait for her to have babies. I know you can't breed on the first heat, is it true you need to find a smaller boy for the female??? Here is a question, here within the last week luna lays down with us while we watch tv, and she will start licking us and she won't stop. What is going on with her, any ideas?? Is there anything else as a new owner I should know??? Thanks for your time, and look forward to hearing from everyone. We can use all the help we can get.... Lunas_mom |
Hello and welcome |
Welcome to YT!:) |
You def. need to wait until the 2nd heat, and how big is your little girl? Yes, you should always use a smaller boy, and if you don't have any experience in breeding, I wouldn't myself do it, and I've had small dogs for years. I know a lady that had been breeding, and she lost her female the 2nd time she had her pups..it devastated this woman..I don't know much about breeding, as I really don't care too..It would devastate me to breed any of my pets and lose them..something to think about |
Thanks for the welcoming....Luna is now 5 lbs. and 7mths old. Both my boys and I would also be devastated if something happend to her, and yes that is something to think about thanks. However I was hoping that a friend of mine would help me, or the the lady I bought Luna off of. They both live not too far away from me. Thanks sooo much |
Welcome to YT and best wishes with your little gal!! :D |
I just looked, for some reason, I thought you said she was in her first heat..Sometimes these little dogs don't go in to heat for close to a year, sometimes sooner. I know my little girl is a little over 5 mos and still around 3 1/2 lbs. I'm hoping she holds out on going in to heat for a few mos. yet, as I am going to get her in to get her spayed in March(when she's around 7 1/2 mos)..just hoping she can gain a little weight between now and then.. |
Welcome to YT!! :welcome4: |
Looking for baby boy It is me again....I am looking for a boy yorkie. I live in Ohio does anyone know of any little boy yorkies???? Thanks |
Welcome to yt, good luck in your search, did you look in the yorkies for sale forum;) |
Welcome to YT! So glad to have you & Luna here. Please research breeding here on YT and other books & sites. Here's a good site to check out http://www.learntobreed.com/ Breeding is a big undertaking. I know I used to breed Bichons, and at this time, have chosen not to breed any animals. |
hi and welcome to yt:) |
:yorkietal Welcome to YorkieTalk Tracy and Luna! :yorkietal You have definately come to the right place if you want to talk with friendly people and learn about Yorkies. My suggestion would be to take Luna to the vet for a good check-up for congenital disorders and to get your vet's input as to her breeding status. If you get an ok from your vet, then you need to wait until he second heat - give the wee little one a chance to fully mature. That will give you plenty of time to fine that perfect male to compliment her. Good luck! |
welcome to YT. |
Everytime you breed your risking the life of the dog your breeding.. It's not easy and it's hard work to do it right. If you don't know what your doing learn by reading but the best way is by talking to a breeder that will talk to you... Many won't. Have a good vet on hand always if you do breed.. Welcome and good luck...:) |
