New member and new to the yorkie world Hello everyone I am so glad I found this sight, I am new to owning a small breed dog and am a little out of my element. I have had my yorkie for 4 months she is 8 months old and the love of my life I also have 2 cats and a rescue mutt. Anyways Lily my yorkie was spayed on thur and I picked her up on friday, Friday she was calm and sleepy. The vet asked me to keep he calm and quiet for 12 days well.... when she got up she was trying to run and play with the cats, they are her best friends. So I put up the cats but no matter what I do she wants to run and play, If I put her in her kennel which i hate to do she chases her tale and barks. I am not sure how or if it is possible to keep her calm. Please any thoughts or suggestions. |
i had this same problem with Bailey after she was spayed. What worked for me was giving her a treat that would keep her busy and in one spot. I don't know about ur dog but mine loves her everlasting treat ball. It keeps her entertained and for the most part still for hours at a time. I know its hard to calm them down, but it really is important so she doesn't pop a stitch or anything. Hope this helps! |
Welcome to YT!! :welcome4: Glad you found us. I don't know how to keep the little one from running and playing other then to kennel her when you're not able to hold her. I know because I'm going through the same thing with Katie, only difference is her surgery was for LP. Good luck keeping her still. LOL :D :D |
Welcome! I am new to the Yorkie community too, in the last month or so. Good luck with your new pup. I keep Remi in an X-pen when he is supposed to have quiet time. This works just fine, especially when we are busy cooking or doing chores, etc. Left to his own devices he would be running, playing and getting in trouble all day long. When your pup is feeling better I would suggest longs walks and lots of exercise! Lots of good luck to you! |
Ha. Do vets KNOW how difficult it is to keep a Yorkie relaxed? Yeah, I'd agree with the others. Something they like to chew on (bully stick? treat ball?) and/or an Xpen. Good luck. And WELCOME! |
Welcome to yt!!! Yes, it is normal to have to worry, follow, watch, etc..... when you have a Yorkie!! :D It is so difficult to keep them quiet, but do the best that you can do....... and just try to keep the little rascal from jumping too much. I remember Shelby kept trying to get up on the couch and ottoman so she could "jump"   ...... Crazy little dogs!!! Again, Welcome to YT!!! |
The vets say that, but, mine wouldn't calm down either, so, I just let them play, but, always make sure they're not getting rough with eachother..good luck with your baby..post some pictures.. |
My husband has the camera I will post asap |
Welcome to yt is nice to have you here with us, congratulations on your baby:p |
Welcome to yt and good luck with Lily. Bully sticks work with Murfee. He chews them for long periods of time. |
