Diarrhoea Ruby has been sick since last thursday. She's had constant runs and has been drinking alot of water. I called my vet and they told me to put her on a bland diet of bioled chicken and rice. She didn't get any better and actually got worse. I took her to the vet on Wednesday and they had to test her stool. I called today but the results still are not back yet. She's still playing and eating normal. Has any had problems like this before? HELP!! :animal-sm |

Since this is Friday, do not let the vet staff go home for the weekend, before you know what is wrong. Keep calling every so often. Have you tried 1/4 tsp. of Pepto Bismol. That's what Mag's vet recommends when the runs don't slow down. Once you can get the bowel slowed down, then the food will stick to her better. |
sorry to hear about ur baby. i have experience with this and usually the vet would give u an antibiotic to help settle his tummy... i was also told to give KAOPETCATE 1 ml twice a day until stool comes back to normal.. i would give it right after his bfast and then another after dinner ...but the rice and chicken should work. gl keep us posted |
yeah Annie had this problem once. She's always eating things she shouldn't but this one time we just couldn't get the diarrhea to stop. The vet gave her antibiotics and some diarrhea pills. It lasted for a week or so... Vet just think she ate some paper or something. And I do believe at the time she had tore up her wee wee pad! She is much older and wiser now  |
Charlie had diarhea a few weeks ago. The vet told me to put him on boiled rice and hamburger. And give him liquid Immodium Ad after every time he had a loose BM. It worked like a charm. He was back to himself in no time |
I am sorry to hear about your baby. I am surprised your vet didn't go ahead and give him some keopectate or something for the diahrea.. Hopefully he will soon. |
My vet tells me results within hours, not days. I'd drive them crazy, you don't want this baby to get sicker. Call the vet and think about changing to one who specializes in toy breeds. They could have easily given you an "in the meantime" remedy. |
Please make sure your baby gets enough water and vitamins because he can get severely dehydrated/sick. |
TJ has diarrhea again. I caught him eating the wall. I am giving him boiled chicken and rice. The Vet told once that I could give him immodium, of course I can't find the paper where I wrote down how much and it is Saturday and after the Vet hours. Does any one know how much (in terms of cc) do I give him. He is just over 5 months and weighs 3.3 lbc. THANKS!!! |
When Chachi had diahrea the vet had me give 3ccs of keopectate. So I imagine it would be the same with the Imodium. |
OH Great! I will give it to him now. Me and TJ thank you :-) |
Your welcome! I hope TJ feels better soon! |
A few weeks ago Zoe had diarrhea for 4 days. The vet had me stop feeding her for 24 hours, then gave Hill's Prescription diet, which was chicken and rice. Her fecal was ok. She had chocolate milk runs for 4 solid days. After I stopped feeding her, she had one stool with liquid around it, all good after that! |

Did you find out what caused it? |
Im so sorry that Ruby is sick with the runs. Please contact your vet for the results. When Gucci was sick with diarrhea the vet prescribed her some antibiotics, gave me some nutrical and told me to give her some boil rice and chicken. She got better in a couple of days. Your baby is being sick almost a week so keep an eye on her not to get dehydrated. I hope Ruby start feeling better soon. Please keep us posted. |
maybe she has coccidia... kinda sounds like it.. its good that she is drinking her water and staying hydrated. let us know what they found. |

Ruby's mom - Have you heard anything from your vet? when I first got my puppies, the began having loose stools - I changed them to bottled water and gave them immodium AD. Have you changed food recently? |
TJ and Roxy are still having mushy poop. Roxy's is at least 'log like' but it is mushy inside. TJ's looks like a big glob of soft ice cream and it sometimes has very watery mucus. I did change their food from Eukanuba to Innova (...cold turkey, I know I shouldn't have done that but the Eukanuba was make them sooooooo itchy). And they are such little buggers, they eat anything and chew on the corners of the walls/moulding. I have to watch them constantly. So, I think it is the combo of the change of food and the wall (paint, wood and sheetrock) in their system. Oh yeah, also TJ drank a little of the soapy water from his bath the other day and he also slipped his tongue in the conditioner cap, so maybe all that is not agreeing with him. I am still feeding them boiled chicken and rice and leaving the Innova puppy dry out while I am at work. I also give them 4cc of pedialite before I leave in the AM and this morning I gave TJ 3cc of Immodium b/c he had that mushy diarrhea at 5am. Does this all make sense? |

Maybe not switching the food gradually was too much for their little tummies. I think giving them the boil chicken and rice is a good idea. You said that TJ's poop has mucus, if this continue in a couple of days I will take a poop sample to the vet to be safe. Good luck and please keep us posted. |
Marie, Thanks for your advice. If it doesn't get better by Friday, then I will bring in a sample to the Vet. If it is still ok with you I will e-mail you pics over the weekend (I want to take new ones) of Roxy & TJ for you to help me resize and post them...thanks! |
Sure you can email me the pics and I will resize them for you. Pm me anytime. :) |
