5 months old and still not housetrained We have been crate training Logan since we got him in October. He is 5 months old and is still not housetrained. He doesn't pee in the house, but he poops in the house. This happens even after I have taken him out, and he's gone to the bathroom. I usually catch him squatting and whisk him outside so that the mess doesn't get in the house, but I'm befuddled at his inability to "get it." Is this common for this breed? |
Five months is very young. Try six years.:rolleyes: Ellie poops in the house almost everyday. Yorkies are a bit more difficult to train than other dogs. I would just give it time. |
Many take up to a year. Some are lucky but yorkies are notorious for being difficult to train. At least the poop is small.:p Hang tight- he'll get it eventually.:) |

Its very normal for them to still have ( acccidents), My new babie shiloh just turned 5 mths last week, he had a few accidents at first untill he followed my others and learned the ropes, He has not had another in over a week;) but i do have to take him out more freaquently then the others, Maybe try leaving him out longer, good luck:) |
Conner was not completely housetrained until he was almost 10 months old. We went to Florida when he was 9 months old, and I got him belly bands to wear in my mom's house (she has white carpeting).:eek: I don't know if it was the belly bands (which he hated) or seeing my mom's yorkie going potty outside, but while we were there he never had an accident and has not had one since (he is almost two). Just keep on top of it - he will get it eventually. Now Conner would be mortified if he had an accident. He is always so proud of himself for going outside. |
I had the same problem with Bailey:aimeeyork , so I started keeping a log of when she pooped! As it turned out she'd go 20-30 minutes after a meal. She was about 9 mos old then. The log is a great idea! Learning the schedule is very important and of course feeding according to a schedule helps too! Five months is still young. Be consistent and you will learn to read your pup. Good luck! |
5 months is still young. My little guy is 13 weeks old and I am home with Jeter so I keep track of when he eats and I get him out side a half hour after that. Also I take him outside after he has taken a nap and also after he has been playing with our family.Jeter will go in a circle sniffing around and that is a clue that I look for to let him out. I have read a few books on potty training to get a few ideas and so far I have not had many problems. Good luck! |
We crate trained Cosmo too and had the same problems! How funny! The good news..he is now 11 months and accident free! Like you he got going potty easy but then would come in and poo. My mom said maybe we were not giving him enough time...which was a good point. I started to make him stay out longer even after he would pee and come back to the door, I would tell him go potty and within minutes he would leave the door and go poop. We have sliding glass doors which we now have bells on, he nodges the bells when he needs to go outside. We have kittys or we would get the outside doggie doors. I was frustrated at the same time you are, hang in there it will take!:rolleyes: |
Pixie pees in the house a couple of times a day! sometimes she uses the pee pad by the back door...she does prefer to go outside but when the weathers bad i hate to let her out...i'm hoping she will get better with the pads! |
