Bullystick ? I am going to pick up some bullystix today at petsmart & just wanted to make sure reagan is old enough to have them, her b-day is oct 3rd. I'm not going to leave one w/her I was just going to let her chew on one while in my lap, also will this upset her tummy any? Thanx all |
Thanks for asking this question. I am a little confused by what the difference is between a bully stick and just a normal rawhide. And I too would like to know at what age they should have these. Rocco is teething sooo bad and I would like to find something safe for him to chew on other than my furniture.:( |
You won't know if it will upset her tummy until you try. If you are going to hold the stick for her or supervise her, then I think it's fine at her age. I always suggest people give only like 1 inch of the stick at first, wait a day, see what happens, and then try a little more. Just like you would slowly introduce a new food. I don't recommend the Petsmart brand though. They STINK and there are better quality ones out there. Do you have a small local shop that might have Merrick or another brand of sticks? |

Bully sticks are safer in that they are digestible. They eat them a little bit at a time (not just chew on them, but eat them). It's still important to have supervision just like any treat. Mine can eat a whole 6" bully stick in a day and be fine, but they get them all the time. It took us a couple times trying sticks when he was a puppy until his tummy was happy. I don't know if Sammy had eaten sticks before coming to us, but she never had a problem. It was fun to watch her eat her first one - she was trying to figure out what it was and what to do with it. Now she is is pro. |
there is one feed store & I'm going to check there first, thanks so much! |
KathrynS on here sells Bully Sticks too. |

How much is shipping on your merricks? |
As long as your supervising I'm sure she'll be ok. I would only let her have a little piece at a time to see how her belly handles it. |

Lucy loves the Merrick Flossies. They are the only ones she has ever shown an interest in. |

I was told, and found to be true, that the lighter the bully stick, the less they stink. I buy them at my pet store, and look for the lighter ones. They hardly stink. I'm gold the bully stick is made from bull penis, and that is why they are digestible....sorry if that is too much info for you, might change your mind on buying them now.... |
The odor free bully sticks are sometimes like that because they are bleached  I haven't found color to be any indication of stinkiness. But yes, they are a bull penis. We prefer to use the term "tendon" :D |

If she's really going at it she will finish one in a couple of days. Usually she will have some, then pick it up again later so about three days before it gets too short and I throw it out...I also agree about the smell. These are a pleasure compared to some. |
