How can i tell if my yorkie is pregnant?
 
Hey i am a new member to the yorkie site i was seeking some info about my yorkie. i would like to know how can I tell if my female yorkie is pregnant.

Why would you *think* that she is prego? Did you breed her?

When was she bred. there have been posts on here where the dog was examined and determined to be NOT pregnant one day and delivered a puppy the next.

It is hard tio tell sometimes if they are only carrying one puppy. At about 58 dfays you can have an xray done. And ultrasound can be done earlier if you really want to know, but that is costly.

I didn't intend to breed her but I also have a male at home and he kept trying to hump her. I stopped him many times, but not sure if he did breed her. She is gaing weight and her nipples are getting bigger. Thanks everyone for your quick responses. :animal36

OK, that information (that she *could* have been bred) helps out with giving you an answer. :)
You'll have determine which days a possible tie from your male could have happened. Do you know for certain that she was in heat? The weight and swollen nipples doesn't mean anything concretely...it could be a false pregnancy or just something she is going through post-heat--it happens.
Like someone mentioned, it's hard to tell for certain until late on in the pregancy for sure.
If you are worried and this was unwanted and it is early on, you can have her spayed now. If you don't intend to breed...have them fixed. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a bit and it will be a guessing game. Keep an eye on her and when she is around 40 days or so, you *may* be able to have a vet give you an answer...but still, nothing you can count on 100% until later on.
If nothing else, you now know how persistant these fellas can be and you need to make plans to keep them further apart next time.

When did you notice she was in heat? Did you write it on a calendar? The only way to be 100% sure your male doesnt breed your female is to keep them 100% separated.(or have them spayed/neutered) How old are they? Its always possible tht she is haeing a false pregnancy but to make sure I would have a vet examine her. Good luck!!
