Need Expertise I hope I am posting this in the right section. Okay I am needing some advice. in the late spring early summer I am planning on getting another Male Yorkie. This is what I am looking for: short cobby body with an excellent topline, small face and ears, good quality and quantity in coat length and texture, dark eyerims , nice pedigree with at least Champions in the dam or sire or grand dam & grandsire and not too dark in coloring. I am planning on showing. I have spent the last few days looking at every breeder website I could find. some have what I am looking for but with limited registration and no chance of getting a full registration. I have a few breeders in mind but I have to find time with my work schedule to visit and see the pups and parents in person. I want to be able to go and visit to see the pups in person, talk to the breeder and see the living conditions. See one or both parents to get an idea of what the pup would look like. So they have to be within a days drive there and back from Michigan. |
I think that the limited registration you are seeing has a great deal to do with the breeders not wanting their dogs bred, which is typical and understandable. And don't be shocked if they dont' keep any show quality dogs produced for themselves. My advice would be to pick up the phone and actually call one near you. Explain your situation to them and what you are interested in doing. If they can't help you, maybe they can send you in the right direction. Attend some shows near you (which will require travel). Talk to and meet people there and let them know that you are dedicated and serious...not just someone trying to scam a great dog to turn into a breeding machine.:) |
Thanks Bama, I have started talking to a few that are near to me. I guess my biggest problem is finding the reputable ones that aren't out there trying to scam someone. I don't want to spend hours on the phone with a breeder that isn't honest. Plus I am very picky on the look I am wanting. I have been to a few shows and the people I did approach to ask questions looked at me and talked to me like I was beneath them. Some of the websites I have been to have very nice looking Dams or sires but the other is not so nice looking and has left me wondering if that is what future pups will look like. I have already been scammed with the breeding of my female Maggie, I trusted someone I thought was a friend and ended up not being able to register the litter. Granted I have 2 boys that I wouldn't give up for the world. But had I to do it over again i would have demanded to see proof of reg, instead of just going on a friend's word. Any and all help and advice is appreciated. |
That is unfortunate--it does seem as if you are having a rough go at things. :( Maybe someone here will be able to help you out and recommend someone in your area. So many breeders have been screwed over too that it is hard for them to trust others with the dogs they've worked so hard for. Another good place to start would be to see if there are any breed clubs near you. Hang in there, keep your chin up and keep trying. It will work out for you eventually. |
I appreciate your help it does seem that something worth doing right will be the hardest to get into. I hope that someone will see my post and have some recommendations. I will research into breed clubs now since I think I have gone as far as I can researching the breeders that do have websites. in the middle of this month I am planning on visiting a breeder to see the pups she currently has and talk to her about one of her females that I would contemplate getting a pup from. I want to see her in person first. I am keeping my chin up and I know someday soon I will find the pup I am looking for. Until then all I can do is more research and go to more shows. Thank you |
Have you tried Susan of Stardust Yorkies. She has a website but doesn't keep it updated as she isn't computer savvy, but you can get her phone number from it. She is in Illinois. She is very easy to talk to and very very honest. |
I may have looked at her site. But i will have to go back and look. Thank you. |
