Anyone else have a self important yorkie? Geez .. or am I the only one? Gizmo is something else I tell you.. It's a bit funny at times and not so much at others.. during this holiday season there has been several kids, adults, relatives wanting to pet the "cute yorkie" but he will not have it .. he simply turns his head and backs away like," I don't think so.. don't touch "THE HAIR"..lol... |
I know a lot of Yorkies that are like that. Some of mine would never think about going to a stranger and others would be wanting to be picked up and petted. It sounds like your Gizmo has bonded to you and wants nothing to do with anyone else. That is fairly typical Yorkie behavior. My first Yorkie I got when she was 7 months old and she was not socialized with other people at all. She would be terrified if someone she did not know tried to pet her. She is now 11 years old and she has never liked strangers but she is my little shadow. I don't know which is worse, a stuck-up Yorkie or a overly friendly one. |
Lol - that is too cute! Buster is the opposite....he looooooves when my friends or family go crazy for him. He loves being the center of attention. Its funny though there are certain people that he will not even come near - I guess its true dogs can really read people! |
We used to have a cat like that. She literally was queen of the castle, she had her own spot on the couch and glared at you if you sitting there. She permitted you to pet her head and only her head, not the body that she spend countless hours grooming, and most definitely touching the tail was out of the question. |

Awww... to cute :D Kinda wish Meka was more like that... Instead, she runs up to any and everything with no fear - and that scares me.... |
We have been breeding for seven years and in all that time we had only one, which by change we kept, that will have nothing to do with being touched or held except on very special occassions, like when she's not feeling up to par or when she's in heat. She is the prettiest little thing but so stand-offish. WHEN she will let you pick her up, she shakes like crazy and you have to be careful when you put her down because she dives out of your arms and runs like crazy into her castle. My daughter has her brother who is just the opposite, very loving and friendly. |
Max is outgoing with any adult but not so much with kids. When my 8 year old niece comes in the house he barks like crazy but wags his tail the entire time. After the barking, he calms down and plays with her. Strange. She is very dog friendly and it upsets her that he barks at her. lol. |

It's funny but I really think, outside of family, Buddy picks who he wants to pet him. He will not allow anyone to pick him up except me. I have seen him growl at someone and then wag his tail and beg to be petted by some other stranger. Who can figure these dogs out? I can't. |
My charlei is like that, he will let you pet him on his trems only:rolleyes: once company is seated and he knows it ok, they have a new best friend;) |
Cody James is like that... He WON'T let anyone he doesn't know even family members and kids Touch Him. If I'm holding him he wriggles around and freaks out. I rub him and tell him it's ok but he doesn't want no part. He goes to my mom.. and he LOVES my neighbor and a few of the other ladies here. but thats it. Is this bad? Shouldn't he have people socialization? I feel bad . but at the same time i don't push it. and i tell people just to leave him alone and let him come around. |
My yorkie is the total opposite! He loves to see new people and gets super overexcited. I don't always like it though, cause then because he is jumping toward them they always ask if they can hold him. |
Yeah, Maggie thinks her poop doesn't stink!! Bailey, on the other hand is my social butterfly, she's always glad to welcome anyone. *_* |
