Biting issue It isn't S'anah, it is Izzy-B. She isn't doing it to be mean, and she isn't agressive. She does it when she is excited - like when I am gone for 1/2 a second and then come back. She is SO happy to see me again. I pick her up and she gives me lots and lots of kisses. She will be kissing away and then out of nowhere she bites my nose. :confused: She doesn't do it hard, but sharp little puppy teeth on the inside of my nose HURTS! Last night she got me good and the inside of my right nostril hurts so bad it is still numb this morning. Is there a way to stop it other than just keeping her away from my face? I don't want to miss out on the sweet Izzy kisses. |
When Reuger was small he would chew on me with his sharp little teeth. It didn't hurt much but I didn't want him to be doing that to the kids. I read on here that if you yell really loud each time they do that they'll stop. If you think about it that's what litter mates do when they bite each other. You'll hear them make noise. It worked for Reuger. |
What I've read to do is squeal when they bite too hard. Then put them down and walk entirely away from them and ignore them. Soon they get the hint that biting too roughly means no play time from mommy. It's always worked for me! |
Yep - immediately say OUCH! and set her down or move away from her and ignore her for a minute or two. Repeat until she gets it. Sammy does this. We didn't have her when she was a puppy so it's becoming very difficult to break her of the habit. You're right, she's not doing it to be mean she is just too excited. That is how puppies play and they just need to learn it's not OK to play like that with people. We just warn visitors that Sam will bite their noses if they let her give kisses!! |
Mine does that too, but never very hard. It's puppy excitement to see you. Mine gets very excited if I squeal or say ouch and gets a little more wild. lol When she bites me anywhere I say "no bite" and put her down for a few minutes. Enjoy those puppy kisses! :animal36 |

Try to "yelp" like one of her littermates or another dog would if she bit them in the wrong way. Ever notice when dogs are playing and one yelps - and all play stops bc the other dog knows it went too far? It's like that...so practice that yelping, girl! :D |
Oh lord Mike's family already thinks I'm weird. I can only imagine what they are going to be talking about while I'm practicing my dog yelps! LOL! :p |
Have you told her NO firmly when she does it? When Meka use to bite to hard, I would say NO firmly to make her stop or OUCH and she would soften her bite. I think you should try communicating with her a bit more when she does that...and she'll get it :) |
